Status: offline 		Okay here is a variation on a topic that I also posted on last year.
I will repeat topics that I KNOW have been posted on before, if I feel they are worth
bringing up again!
*For those that live their life researching topics that have been brought up before*
If I feel the topic is a good one, I may bring it up every single year, for those
that keep track.
 
I tend to be an online lazy reader.
I will rarely read posts that are longer than 5-6 SHORT paragraphs, unless something
really grabs or intrigues me.
If I find the post interesting, I will read it, even if the topic has been brought up here 8 million times before.
I will admit, I often don't read more than 1 sentence, if I don't find it interesting.

Many of us are not on here, to read posts that are longer than magazine articles and
some short stories.

How do you feel about them?
If you don't like the topic or the way the post is written, do you feel the need to have to tell the OP?

Status: offline 		I have long post ADD. Unless the writer is amazingly fascinating, or it is someone whose posts I really enjoy, I make it about two sentences before I get distracted by something shiny.

Status: offline 		I prefer short posts.  If a post is lengthy I rarely read it in its entirety.  I prefer a hit/run style of posting and reading.

My time is limited.  I'm working on the computer a lot so I check
in frequently but never stay too long.

Long posts just mean to me that whoever is doing the posting thinks waaay too much of themself. If you can't say it with just a few sentances you're trying to baffle us with bs in my opinion

Status: offline 		Heh I read everything in front of me. I love long posts if they're well written or have an interesting idea. I love short posts that are the same way. I get sad when I realise that the back of the cereal box is too short.When I was a very young I had to take a seriously tough speed reading course for school, it has always stuck with me so I end up reading everything my eyes scan over. Makes for long bouts in front of the PC I can tellya.

If the writer has a track record of saying things that interest me, then yes I will read a very very long post from that person.

Hmmmm... not generally, there are many topics I do not care about, I skip those threads. As for writing style, if I do not care for the post I move on usually.

I read what interests me...including very long posts (which I often find informative).
 
When I recognize the poster as someone whose 'work' I enjoy, I almost always read them; long or no.
 
When I recognize the poster as someone whose 'work' I do not respect...I pass the post by.
 
If I find a thread that doesn't snag my interest...long or short posts; I move on.
 
It seems a simple matter to me:  Engage or Ignore  (no buttons needed here)

edited to add:  I really like the way Level does things; he posts a paragraph or two and includes a link to the 'full' verson.  Great thinking!!!

LMAO at "something shiny"  I'm with lauren.  If the post is from someone I find interesting, or a topic that hits close to home. then I may read a long post other than that, I don't even get to the second sentence.  Now that you mention it, I feel the same way about long winded voicemails. Argh!  You can bet I won't listen to the whole thing, so if you leave me a message and you're dieing, say it in the first few seconds or you're on your own.

edited to say, unless we're talking about a post or voicemail from my Sir... hee hee then He has my undivided attention!

Status: offline 		I don't have attention and patience enough for really long posts. There are a few posters that I make exceptions for because they really know their stuff, but in general no.
"How I feel about them" (them being long posts) is that opinions cant be that hard to put into words. If someone need 10-15 paragraphs they often repeat themselves; it's just doesn't feel "worth the time" to read the whole thing.
Same thing with "feeling the need to tell the OP". If it wasn't worth the time to read the entire post, is it really more worth while to write a complaint?

Status: offline 		For me it depends entirely on the history of the poster, and how easy it is to scan their font.  I want what *I* write to be read, so I keep my own posts short.  If I can't think of something useful to say in just a couple paragraphs, I don't post on that thread.

Status: offline 		depends on the subject, the writer and my mood most days.....but normally i do the evelyn wood speed reading version on them, and if nothing catches my eye, i move on.

Some are long, some are strange colours or fonts.  I don't block any words on here because you can learn even from the subjective negative posts.

Status: offline 		If the writer seems to be making a good case on a subject of interest I will read all he/she has to say. If they are just writing from ego I will pass. If they have quoted 4 or 5 quotes deep or 20 paragraphs of quote and then one line of response I will pass. Same if they feel the need to quote and reply to every sentence written by someone else line by line. I prefer those who quote and reply to only the salient points of a prior post. In other words those who have a little self-editing skills. If I want to read the prior post I only need to look up-thread, I don't need each post repeated fully in quotes over and over.

Oh yeah, if the writer's font is several sizes larger than those of every other poster in the thread I automatically pass on what they have to say as well.

Status: offline 		It really depends on what the subject is.  I will read a long post if I get hooked in the first paragraph.  If the post is one gigantic. rambling paragraph, I won't read it.  I am also with Darcy; I don't block people.  I find that to be childish; it's like sticking your fingers in your ears.  I like reading from everyone here, and that includes people I disagree with.
