SirMichealspeach -> my latest assignment (1/3/2008 7:07:32 PM)

This May seem silly to some of You, but, i have been instructed to learn how to fold socks, underwear, and t-shirts to meet of the Airforce Basic training standards. I have googled this and cannot find anything. Masters daughter showed me how the army folds them but that wasn't right for this assignment ... I have been instructed to "try again" . Can anyone give me a link or  point me in the right direction as to how to finish this ssignment?
Thanks in advance.

Hmmm... do you happen to know anyone, or know anyone who knows someone, who could take you on an Air Force base, or a base used by the Air Force? I know that Quantico had a store where enlisted folks could pick up various things they needed, like different uniform parts. You might be able to get a manual but it's a complete guess.

SirMichealspeach -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 7:16:54 PM)

Thank you AquaticSub..I do live close to a base but without the proper clearance, noone gets on. Master has a couple of friends in the Airforce i'm gonna check with but i'm afraid there won't be time for that. Thanks for trying though.

Well I would suggest possibly asking the person who gave you the assignment? Do they have recruitment centers, I would guess someone would be willing to guide you in the right direction

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 7:18:29 PM)

Doesn't seem silly to me at all, I taught my partner how I prefer socks to be folded.  Unfortunately I can't help you and can only suggest perhaps a youtube video? :)

If worst comes to worst, you could always try calling an Air Force recruiter, tell them you have to write a report on the Air Force and ask them some general questions. Then say you want to put in something unique and ask them how they fold their socks. [;)]

Edited for typos

SirMichealspeach -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 7:19:55 PM)

I am pretty sure the person who gave me the asignment knows how to do this..He is looking to see if i can find out on my own and wants to see how much effort i put into finding the right answer.

Call Lackland AFB and ask for a T.I. (training instructor) or call and ask anyone there what the standards are.  If they are Air Force enlisted, they will probably tell you without thinking about it.

Well women have the "easy" option of offering their boobs on webcam for anyone who gives an answer- you'll get 100 offers in an hour, but I can't promise any of them will give you solid info.

batshalom -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 7:30:23 PM)

Something about six-inch squares and using a pair of tweezers to get the seams straight. Good luck. This sounds like an assignement I'd actually enjoy.

kittysdemise -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 7:31:25 PM)

Lol, I love a challenge and would love to help but....does he want them rolled or folded?  All I can find is that they "used to" be taught to fold them into 6 inch squares (can't find any instructions for that) but are now taught to roll them.  As far as rolling a six inch shirt I found this:

"reach inside the bottom of the shirt about 2 inches...fold that lip up. Lay the shirt flat out, fold into a six inch wide shirt. (It will have the neck at the top and be 6in wide down to the lip you made...long and skinny...fold from the sides) Starting at the top of the shirt, tightly roll it down towards the lip you previously made. After the shirt is rolled, you should have the 2 inch lip to fold back over the roll. Presto. It is way harder to explain in words that just showing you...if you have anyone who can physically show you how... that would probably be more helpful. :) GOOD LUCK"

Don't think I could do it from that but maybe it will help?

SirMichealspeach -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 7:36:19 PM)

Masters daughter showed me how  to "roll" ..i was told that was not correct. so i am assuming He does not want them rolled. however, i have done a search onthe Air force Basic training manual and still have not found anything on how to fold laundry..not giving up though...i will find it....Your right though its now a challenge

Amaros -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 8:25:47 PM)

This is actually part of military training, and the goal here is to test and develop ability to follow instructions and attention to detail - ideally, he ought to be training you himself, it isn't anything you're going to find much info on in the civilian world. Try finding an Air Force training manual, surplus stores maybe, and an Airman to tutor you and check your work, it's very much a precision operation, lol.

One of the fringe benfits of military training however, when I used to go to the laundromat, I would leave the ladies standing there with their mouth open while I left them in the dust, folding twice the laundry in half the time.

I cheat though, I don't fold anything that you might worry about getting wrinkled: socks, pajamas, etc. - I just buy all my socks identical and throw them into a drawer, never have to worry about mismatched pairs, etc.

Further, if you roll your socks, it just stretches out the elastic and they fall down around your ankles, that sucks.

Muttling -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 8:35:21 PM)

If he had never served in the Air Force, then it is unlikely that HIS answer will be the Air Force answer.    I suggest you humbly submit before him and BEG for his teaching.

Amaros -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 8:40:49 PM)

I like Muttlings suggestion.

Oh, rolling is done when it's packed - it saves space, otherwise it has to be flat for inspection.

lighthearted -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 8:54:02 PM)

here's a link on folding clothes in general...might be a good jumping off point.

I hope the person who gave you the assignment knows how to do this or how would they know if you done it correctly?

winterlight -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 9:33:15 PM)

kittish -> RE: my latest assignment (1/3/2008 10:14:57 PM)

Sir Micheal's peach: sent you a message on the other side regarding your assignment.
