My grandmother died of lung cancer, yet she never smoked in her life. Sorry, but I am off two minds as to whether smoking causes lung cancer.I have worked in hiogh dust atmospheres, that being wood dust, Stone dust etc.I was a small tool (no comments please) mechanic, I serviced and repaired wood cutting machinery and stone cutting machinery on a daily basis, an occpation where respiratory protection was not mandatory.Sometimes I used PPE other times not, but starting faulty machines for test purposes resulted in an atmosphere of what the machine was cutting last, and that that includes the 'cowboy' builder who might have found asbestos and I knew many builders who would not care to follow proper procedures, it based upon cost.So there is the worry. I am a smoker who is in two minds about lung cancer.I certainly do not agree smoking cause lung cancer, but am off the oppinion any particle dust might be responsible wood dust, coal dust, stone dust or any other dust inhaled on a regular day to day basis. It is my sole oppinion that diesel fumes might cause a cancer, that being a known carcinogen.I as a small tools mechanic regularly serviced diesels on a regular basis.I made my concerns to the company which employed me, and was told there was no problem, and this was a blue chip company. So, I wonder. I would like to be without the need for tobacco, but I enjoy the time out of everything it brings.Time I have found for the self, it being a yogic breath on inhalation,(and yes I do yoga). I have tried the nicotine replacement therapies, body stickers, inhalers and gum, for me they do not work,They perpetuate the need and so I see as a waste of money.Talk does not work, it is an addiction and should be treated as such, be it a bodily need or a psychological need.Me, it is the latter,I will not quit for me, but I will for another. I asked my GP about psycho therapies in the form of hypnosis etc, and was told with my strength of mind, it would be fruitless as I am not easily convinced and he would not reccomend giving up that which plagues me so easily, which basically says to me carry on smoking! I have tried all that is in me, no go.I will I know end it with another, be they 'S' or 'D',it matters not, in close with another if I be 'D', I will submit to my lover!!!
