That was one hell of a game, but those Pats pulled it off. Is kind of fitting that it be NY that they defeat to do it.

Marc2b -> RE: Patriots make history (12/29/2007 10:05:19 PM)

It was indeed a hell of a game. Congratulations to the Pats for a remarkable achievement, but now they have to win the superbowl or else the whole thing will ring kind of hollow – sort of like a consolation prize.

TheHeretic -> RE: Patriots make history (12/30/2007 12:15:47 AM)

      That was the second game I've watched this season, and for the first, I was having more fun with the reaction of a good friend with a personal stake in the outcome.

Estring -> RE: Patriots make history (12/30/2007 2:58:22 AM)

If they win the Super Bowl, you could make an argument that they are probably the greatest team ever. Most points and most touchdowns in a season. Most touchdowns thrown by a quarterback. Most td passes caught in a season by Randy Moss. Plus I think their defense is second in points allowed behind Pittsburgh. What other team has held all those records at the same time? None.
Of course they have to win the Super Bowl first.

If they go all the way, greatest team of all time, no doubt. Even if they stumble, they'll be one of the best of all time.

Well, let's not forget the little cheating thing didn't hurt... They should have been disqualified from the Jets game...

The Packers complained about it last year, too...

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Patriots make history (12/30/2007 8:36:35 AM)

fargle, do you go to childrens birthday parties and pop their ballons as a hobby?

farglebargle -> RE: Patriots make history (12/30/2007 8:38:34 AM)

Hobby, no... By appointment only, with a 50% non-refundable deposit due no less than 90 days prior to the event, remainder due BEFORE the show starts. All major credit cards accepted. NO CASH and NO PERSONAL CHECKS.

RavenofPK -> The reality.... (12/30/2007 9:00:16 AM)

I also watched the game. "Oooo.........ahhhh..........wow." Whatever. Okay......they won the game. 16-0. I don't recall the commish handing the Patriots the Lombardi trophy for doing that at the end of the game. Oh wait.......they haven't WON it yet! The press and critics may have already "crowned" them champs, but I remember they tried that same attitude last year with the Bears. Uh.....how did *that* work out, eh? Anyway.........found a very interesting comment made by a member of the '72 Dolphins after last night's game, and it speaks to the reality of the Patriot's "accomplishment" that they, or anyone else cannot dispute.

"We were the first ones to climb Mount Everest," Yepremian said late Saturday. "If New England comes and does it, then they can be the second ones. But you usually don't remember No. 2. I remember Sir Edmund Hillary was the first one to climb Mount Everest. I don't remember who did it the second time. Do you?"

        Exactly.

        "Sharing" history isn't "making" history. Someone has already done it first.

I think farglebargle's right. History, with an asterisk*

Yay Pats!

Hmmm...
I suspect that the "Grinch" is alive and well here on both CM and this thread, roflmao  [:D][:D][:D]

OrionTheWolf -> RE: The reality.... (12/30/2007 9:42:01 AM)

You must be a Giants fan, eh?

As to the asterisk idea, if you believe that all the other great teams did it without a small amount of cheating, then you are mistaken, and I have some land in Mississippi to sell you.

Even Lombardi's teams cheated on the line, and they were taught how by the defensive line coach, and it was known by Lombardi. There is no such thing as a squeaky clean team, some get caught, some don't, some do it in large ways, some in small ways. Believing anything else is to be a resident of the land of Naive.

RavenofPK -> RE: The reality.... (12/30/2007 10:05:32 AM)

Giants fan? Hardly. I am probably the most ANTI-New York person on the planet. Just don't like anything the city has to offer. And believe it or not.......I'm not really a big Dolphins fan either. My reasoning for my disdain for the very existance of the Patriots could be a rather heated and flame throwing topic all on it's own.

All true, but equally true will be the fact that if the Pats do run the board, they'll have won more games than Miami did in their respective undeafeted seasons.

RavenofPK -> RE: The reality.... (12/30/2007 10:15:11 AM)

Irrelevant. Aside from the abeforementioned reasoning..........the Dolphins' acheivement was done in less games. You may speculate all you wish about the Patriots being able to have still done the same.....but the FACT......the undeniable TRUTH is the Patriots took more games to do the same........and didn't accomplish the feat FIRST. The only acknowledged organization that feels the Patriots *made history* is the press. And the press is built on exaggeration and embellishment of the news.

The fact that it would take New England more games is the whole point; I know this is an exageration, but what would be more impressive, a team going undefeated in a 5 game season, or one doing over 20 games?

The fact that the ‘72 dolphins did it in less games is not a bragging point. The fact that the Patriots had to play a sixteen game season (instead of a wussy fourteen game season) is the point. If the Patriots win the Superbowl not only will they have climbed Everest, they’ll have gone bungee jumping off the summit. They will be remembered no matter what some whiney ass, former Dolphin and his fragile ego thinks.

Of course, this is all academic until the Patriots are holding that trophy.

Actually..........the word is still.........."irrelevant". Seems to have hit a nerve.
