NEW YORK (AP) -- The New England Patriots' shot at history Saturday night will be available to every television viewer in the country after months of wrangling. Their game against the New York Giants, in which the Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season, was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network. Fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs receive the channel. The league announced Wednesday that the NFL Network feed will be simulcast on NBC and CBS. It's a major concession by league officials, who repeatedly said they would not show the game anywhere but the NFL Network. The NFL had faced mounting pressure from lawmakers in recent weeks to make the game available to more viewers. Local TV affiliates in the Boston, Manchester, N.H., and New York areas who were already set to simulcast the game under NFL policy will still air it. The NFL has feuded with major cable companies, who have declined to carry the network as part of basic packages. "We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," commissioner Roger Goodell said. "What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever." Giants coach Tom Coughlin was already struggling with how to approach this game; rest his starters, or try to stop history? Wonder if this will affect his decision making?

It might be worth it to the Giants to go all out to stop the Patriots, as they'll be heroes in a lot of fans' eyes if they can succeed. People love an underdog for whatever reason, and the only team that should ever be that good is mine Damn it

The NFL finally gets it. You want as many people as possible to watch your product. Especially with a game of this magnitude.

What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. - Roger Goodell Is he getting that the network isn't all that great? That the reason for strong consumer demand is because that's the only way some of the games can be viewed?

There seems to be a dispute between the cable companies and the NFL which is why the NFL Network is not more widely available. Perhaps he should focus on coming to an agreement with cable. The announcers are not the best on this network, but I don't think even they can ruin this game.

i support the nfl network's efforts and the stand they're taking for their sport. regional coverage of football games is very annoying when very usually the most entertaining games don't happen to involve the teams you live around. 19-0. Best Team Ever. 84 84 84
