Status: offline 		Strangely enough Mike Huckabee the Republican candidate for President and a former Baptist preacher seems to be sympathetic to BDSM.

There is a movement call Christain Domestic Discipline (CDD) which believes among other things:
  • A woman should be submissive to her husband
  • A woman needs to spanked, paddled or caned regularly (maintenance spanking)
  • A woman needs to fear her husbands corrective punishments
  • A woman needs to be beaten at least until she crys for it to be worthwhile
  • All of this is God's plan for mankind

Huckabee seems to endorse at least some of this. He expects a wife to submit to her husband. With authority for that opinion is biblical.

Maybe he will soon issue an explanation or spin (e.g. "I was quoted out of context".)

In case you don't follow politics - Huckabee is emerging as the Republican frontrunner. His views draw attention.

Status: offline 		I think he is a terrifying man.  He wanted to quarantine AIDS patients!!!!!  He tried to stop a 15 year old with mental retardation who was raped by her step-father from getting an abortion.

I don't want 'friends' like this--he would turn on us so quickly because we believe in 'consentual' sexual exploration.

Status: offline 		And what about the kinky folk who are not a male dom/female sub couple?  I am guessing the CDD people wouldn't approve of female dominants, or bisexuals, or queers, or polyamory.

What I most want is for government to stay out of my bedroom and to keep their noses out of my reproductive and sexual activity. For them to keep their damn religion to themselves.

If anyone thinks that he as president would "make" women submit to men is crazy. And to go from his belief in women submitting to the other beliefs that are listed is quite a stretch.

In a similar vein, the GOP candidates were asked what their most prized possessions were. Thompson replied: "My trophy wife." Is Thompson a Gorean?

If you had asked me a month ago which of the candidates was most likely to look favorably on BDSM practices I would have said, none of them. If pressed I might have guessed Dennis Kucinich or some other fringe Democrat. But I wouldn't have thought it very likely.

Status: offline 		Personally, I agree with a lot of his ideas...religion, abortion, things like that.  That being said, regarding religision, I know the only way I will stay free to practic Christanity is if others are free to practice THEIR beliefs. That's basically my selfish way of saying that I'm actually a libertarian.

Sorry to break it to you, but none of the candidates probably ever think about bdsm. Probably because there are many more important things to think about than that.

For that matter so does this CDD movement -- note it's all a matter of the sex of the people, not what they want, not what they choose, not what is good for them, just a matter of biology something they had no choice or control over.

Big difference between those two things... do I even need to explain the difference?

...because he goes along with the idea that a wife should submit to her husband...but you don't know specificaly how exactly he defines said submission... .

Fantasy can be a nice diversion... .

I really am not generally snarky but there is something about the logic..if A equals an unknown quantity then A must equal  Z that bothers me.

As a female of the dominant  nature, I have to agree with the ladies as above.
While I have no problem with people submitting to anyone of their choice, I do when its suggested thats because I am a female that I submit to someone because hes a male? welllllll sorry I gots a problem then.

Status: offline 		Not an American, but I'll echo the others.  What he seems to believe in is domestic discipline for the woman, regardless of all other factors.  If, in fact, he feels that this should be universal, as opposed to personal, it's about as BDSM as me slapping my roommate for not doing the dishes.

However, if he has this personal view, and manages to keep it out of politics, then kudos to the guy.

i think that until he shows that he's willing to serve all the citizens of this country, not just the christian ones, no amount of "support" for bdsm will make me want to vote for him. and until i am able to see where voting for him will serve my interests and what i believe is best for this land, i will not even consider it.

on top of that, my master's belief is that my submission is a choice - that any man or woman's submission is a choice. not a biblical right owed to the dominant. and i am a polyamorous bisexual woman; i imagine polyamory (unless it's traditional polygyny) is not endorsed by huckabee, and i seriously doubt any republican will be supporting rights for glbt people anytime soon.

Status: offline 		Anyone who makes BDSM into a political issue is making an enormous mistake.  We are not a constituency.  We have no party.  No party wants us.  The left thinks we're all mysoginists in need of a jail cell, and the right thinks we're all sinners in need of salvation.  You're deluding yourself to think that we have any political allies in any political party.

Even if he WERE sympathetic to BDSM, the only type he'd favor would be his exclusive type of BDSM.

Huckabee does not strike me as a person who values or embraces diversity of any kind, in my opinion.
