Christmas day is the only acceptable day for snow damn it!!

MissMagnolia -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 9:18:56 PM)

Sammie, when your cooking fucking turkey in 40 degree heat, you'd LOVE some snow!!!

EvilGenie -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 10:29:35 PM)

Fifty degrees is not winter, it is a heatwave up here. We just had a MESS Thursday night and are due for another Sunday into Monday. Disabilities, work and clearing off my car do not mix well. SO glad I won't be here 1 more winter! [:'(]

You must be talking about 40 degrees in Celsius, yes?

MissMagnolia -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 10:39:10 PM)

Yes

sammiebabygirl -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 10:42:34 PM)

In that case, I would find a way to make turkey on the barby.

If you had this much snow in 40 degree C weather, you'd be flooded. LOL

We often have fire restrictions because it's bushfire season.[sm=river.gif] Send me some snow!!!!!!!!!!!!

EvilGenie -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 5:55:16 AM)

I could probably get some snow to you if I made them into ice balls like the older neighborhood boys did when I was growing up. They beamed them at our heads and man they really hurt! It's a wonder we didn't all end up with brain damage!

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY MORNING.
SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION LATE TONIGHT...AND WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES SUNDAY MORNING. THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MIX WITH AND CHANGE TO SLEET IN THE AFTERNOON. THIS CHANGE COULD RESULT IN LOWER SNOWFALL TOTALS ACROSS THE REGION. IN ADDITION...PLAIN RAIN IS POSSIBLE ALONG THE COAST FOR A TIME SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING...AS TEMPERATURES REACH THE FREEZING MARK. EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS WILL BECOME GUSTY IN THE AFTERNOON...AND GUSTS TO 45 MPH ARE POSSIBLE.
BECAUSE THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY REGARDING TOTAL SNOWFALL DUE TO THE SLEET...THE WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT. THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT 6-12 INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW MAY FALL THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 6:03:34 AM)

Rumtiger -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 6:10:16 AM)

Warm my ass, I may not get snow and shit (dry as hell here) but its cold enough that when I try to wash my car the water freezes right on it. I have a fucking carsicle!

Damnit I need to get gas!

Gardenista -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 6:34:25 AM)

Heh, I think I've posted this before, but it bears repeating:

Snow is extremely important for the ecology of temperate climates, especially the parts of the US that are vegetation-heavy. It has a direct affect on the water table, it acts as insulation for dormant perennial plants, and it helps break down dead plants into leafrot.

If we had cold, dry winters all the time here in NE Ohio, it would have such a negative impact on the agriculture that we'd end up paying premium prices for imported produce in the summer.

Drop our microclimate temperature down some and we get winter rain.. which leads to too much soil erosion and lots of nasty bugs. Like mosquitoes. We have mosquitoes here but the number has gone up due to our unseasonably warm winters lately.

So, with that in mind.. I'll keep our snow, lol.

ghitaPVH -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 6:53:44 AM)

what about those of us who are stuck with hot, dry winters? The way its looking right now, christmas dinner is going to be enjoyed outside in shorts and tshirts....with copious amounts of mosquito spray.

IrishMist -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 6:55:32 AM)

We have gotten kind of lucky so far. Lots of warnings and lots of weather; but it all seems to be missing us here. I made a comment a couple of days ago that the weather reminded me of being back in Texas....rain, rain, rain, and more rain...mixed with a bit of ice now and then lol.

KMsAngel -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 8:53:09 AM)

sweetie, you might as well move down here with that kind of weather!

ps. you bring the reeses, i'll stock up on the tim tams! christmas is only 9 days away, think you can get here by then??

pahunkboy -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 8:55:40 AM)

A brown december = a full grave yard in January.  did i recall that right?

EvilGenie -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 9:18:36 AM)

Snow and ice do have their place in our ecosystem and yes it is a great insulator. Winter months without snow leave houses freezing with no foundation coverage. Snow also insulates us. I remember upon returning to the States for a short while I was 6 mos at my parent's house and had to smoke outside in their screen house on the deck. I prayed for even a small amount of snow so I'd be warmer. I got it and just a quarter inch made all the difference in the world.  However, that being said, it can also do great damage to the ecosystem when severe. I recall the ice storm we had in Maine in 1998 and great concern over the millions of damaged, never to recover trees. Maine is primarily a forested state and much damage was done from that ice storm along with all ice storms we have in the winter. We have ice storms every year though the one of '98 was one of the worst in the nation's history. So, it is a double edged sword to the ecosystem. Nothing is always good or always bad for any system, eco, biological or otherwise.

Yes hunky I have heard the same.

MiladyElaine -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 10:07:50 AM)

I don't mind snow but hate that ice!   Here in Texas I have a rose bush in bloom!

That can be said for any weather pattern at any season. For instance, during the North American summer, we living in the southern states need to be mindful of hurricanes and non-cyclonic tropical storm systems. Despite the human costs involved when they blow through, hurricanes are a necessary weather pattern that the Earth uses to redistribute and regulate moisture and temperature. Without hurricanes, or tropical systems in general, much of the North American continent east of the Rockies would end up dry and parched.

Yes, these weather patterns can be severe, but as an elderly Native American man told me many years ago, they are only as severe as Mother Nature deems necessary to clean things up. Yes, ice storms and hurricanes may tear down massive quantities of trees, but from the perspective of the Earth, maybe those trees, now fallen, will decompose and provide much needed nourishment for a new crop of trees, mutated and more resilient than the previous generation. Maybe the forest had become too old, too thick, and too dense to allow for the younger generation to even get a start, thus the cleansing was needed. And so it goes with snow, rain, wind, drought, etc.

Yes, we can mourn for the loss of trees and forests, but in years to come, we will rejoice in the new plants or landscape changes that will be just as beautiful as that which came before.

We get frost adviseries all the time, some afternoons my cell won't stop going off. {raspberry back at ya}

I am suppose to learn to ski this winter, the mountains can use the snow, but as for the valley, if it HAS to be cold, in the mid to high 50s I can live with.  Anything below 70 has me in long sleeves and a boots.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/15/2007 12:51:22 PM)
