I was wondering when the old home area was going to be getting some snow. It's about damn time. From what I understand, the Great Sacandaga Lake and Hinckley Reservoir could use the precip...

:-P

HotFaerieMama -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/13/2007 11:28:33 AM)

send that snow down here we could use it

sappatoti -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/13/2007 11:31:28 AM)

That's right. For all you in the northern climes who don't know what to do with your ice and snow, truck it on down here into Alabama, Georgia, and Florida (I suppose anywhere here in the south). Surface water shortage has reached a critical stage, so any help you can offer in the form of dumping your excess frozen precipitation would be most appreciated.

HotFaerieMama -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/13/2007 12:13:12 PM)

yep yep... i 2nd that...

batshalom -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/13/2007 1:16:41 PM)

Heheheh. I'm in shorts and a tank top today, Jen.

Just thought I'd rub it in while I could - supposed to get cold again tomorrow.

sammiebabygirl -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/13/2007 3:32:39 PM)

I would love to send this snow down south. I went out to clean off my car and ended up with pockets full of snow. Today is supposedly mild compared to what we are getting this weekend. I am hearing reports of up to 18". [sm=hair.gif]

Now, doesn't winter officially begin on the 22nd?

*sings* "I left my heart, in San Francisco."

and to you, batshalom, [sm=whap.gif]

Severe Weather Alert

Snow Advisory

I'll see your Snow Advisory, and raise it with a Winter Storm Watch:
...WINTER STORM HEADED FOR THE OHIO VALLEY THIS WEEKEND...

.A MAJOR WINTER STORM IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE REGION THIS
WEEKEND. A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP OVER THE LOWER
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND THEN MOVE NORTHEAST TO SOUTHEAST OHIO
BY SATURDAY NIGHT. AS THIS SYSTEM MOVES NORTHWARD IT WILL
STRENGTHEN...AND BRING SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER TO MUCH
OF THE OHIO VALLEY.

Remember, it's not really bad until Mike Seidel is broadcasting
from your town (like he did from Dayton a few years ago).

Sammie.....

having grown up in the Rochester,NY area, and one who lived thru the great blizzards of 78 and 79,  i can feel your frozen pain!  I lived in the Chicago, IL area until 2003, and now reside in the wonderfully warm state of Arizona.  It is only in the 60's for the next week or so, 40's at night.....and I'm still in a tank top and shorts!

Anyway, my point is that winter in NY starts somewhere around Halloween....did my fair share of trick or treating in snow!......and last til about Memorial Day....lived thru a storm in May!  It used to be you could plan on storms on the following times:  Halloween, Thanksgiving, the whole month of December, New Year's Eve and day, February was iffy, and Saint Patty's day.  There is a reason that Nature is called a Mother!

I'm sending warm thoughts to all of you stuck in the cold......and, yes, we'll take some of the snow here....ship it to the northern part of arizona.....they actually ski up there!  They didn't get much last winter, they already have several feet.  As for me, if watching the storms on the Weather Channel is the closest I ever get to snow again, that is fine and dandy with me!

sammiebabygirl -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 11:21:39 AM)

thornhappy,
This is our latest:

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING ACROSS EASTERN NEW YORK AND ADJACENT WESTERN NEW ENGLAND.
A POWERFUL WINTER STORM IS FORECAST TO TRACK UP THE THE EASTERN SEABOARD LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY MONDAY MORNING. THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BRING HEAVY SNOWFALL...SLEET AND OR SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ICING FROM FREEZING RAIN.
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP LATE SATURDAY NIGHT...AND QUICKLY OVERSPREAD THE REGION FROM SOUTH TO NORTH BY SUNDAY MORNING. THE SNOW WILL LIKELY COME DOWN RATHER HARD. THEN... AS WARMER AIR MOVES IN OVERHEAD...THE SNOW WILL MIX WITH SLEET TO THE SOUTH AND THEN THE SLEET WILL LIKELY SPREAD NORTH TO ALBANY DURING THE AFTERNOON.
ACROSS THE MID HUDSON VALLEY... NORTHWEST CONNECTICUT AND EVEN MUCH OF THE BERKSHIRES...SOME FREEZING RAIN COULD FALL. TEMPERATURES MIGHT BRIEFLY REACH ABOVE FREEZING IN THE MID HUDSON VALLEY...SO PRECIPITATION COULD BRIEFLY SWITCH TO RAIN.
AT THE SAME TIME...A CONCENTRATED BAND OF HEAVY SNOW IS LIKELY TO SETUP ACROSS THE MOHAWK VALLEY AND SOUTHERN ADIRONDACKS...ARCHING INTO THE SOUTHERN GREEN MOUNTAINS. IT IS IN THIS BAND...WHICH COULD PRODUCE SNOWFALL RATES OF UP TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR.
BY LATE SUNDAY...AS COLDER AIR MOVES BACK IN OVERHEAD...ALL OF THE PRECIPITATION WILL TURN BACK TO SNOW... PROBABLY JUST BRIEFLY WELL SOUTH OF ALBANY. FROM ALBANY NORTHWARD...A PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW COULD TAKE PLACE BEFORE TAPERING OFF TO SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS LATE AT NIGHT.
AN EASTERLY WIND OVER THE ELEVATED TERRAIN AND MOHAWK VALLEY COULD GUST UP TO 30 MPH ON SUNDAY. THIS WIND COULD RESULT IN POWER OUTAGES SOUTH AND EAST OF ALBANY WHERE SOME ICE BUILDUP IS POSSIBLE ON TREES AND POWER LINES. ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN TO THE NORTH OF ALBANY...THIS WIND WOULD CAUSE SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW.
AS THE STORM DEPARTS TO OUR NORTHEAST...THE WIND WILL TURN NORTHWESTERLY AND COULD GUST TO 30 MPH OR BETTER...ESPECIALLY OVER ELEVATED TERRAIN AND DOWN THE MOHAWK VALLEY.
BY THE TIME THE STORM EXITS LATE SUNDAY NIGHT...THE POTENTIAL IS THERE FOR WELL OVER A FOOT OF SNOW TO ACCUMULATE TO THE NORTH AND WEST OF ALBANY. TO THE SOUTH OF ALBANY... SNOWFALL AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS MIGHT ONLY BE IN THE 4 TO 7 INCH RANGE...BUT COULD INCLUDE UP TO HALF AN INCH OF ICE. IN THE IMMEDIATE CAPITAL DISTRICT...AROUND A FOOT OF SNOW... MIXED WITH SLEET...COULD FALL.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW... SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

and soultoshare, thanks for the warm thoughts.

hmm...I agree that we could definenatly use some precipitation down here, frozen or otherwise...but if you do find a way to ship the snow down here, warn me first so I can change out of my shorts and flip flops ok.

trappedinamuseum -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 11:32:01 AM)

Ugh..I have to travel into that soon.

Kill me.

Ghita..you have mail, my love!

ghitaPVH -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 11:38:32 AM)

I will not kill you, although I might kidnap you and tie you up in my room to protect you from the bad weather...

pssst....you have mail too.

trappedinamuseum -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 11:42:05 AM)

Gotcha back!

pahunkboy -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 11:42:38 AM)

I take -a certain glee over the high housing costs in much of the sunbelt- with the thought that 8 or so weeks are bad for my area.

I hate snow- well- the type that I have to shovel.

sweetnurseBBW -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 12:42:34 PM)

Send the snow to here as rain. We have a severe drought in NC and all over the south with only a 90 day water supply left. Everything is dried up so the south will appreciate it. [:D]  There is also a reason I left Alaska, got tired of living in a white out.

pahunkboy -> RE: To All of You Who Live In Warm Climates (12/14/2007 12:44:03 PM)

I wish I could send you the snow/rain . We have ample here.

thornhappy,
This is our latest:

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING ACROSS EASTERN NEW YORK AND ADJACENT WESTERN NEW ENGLAND.

This could get interesting.  I'll send this to NC, see your Winter Storm Watch, and raise it with our new Winter Storm Warning:
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM SATURDAY TO 12 PM
EST SUNDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

SNOW WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA SATURDAY MORNING. THE SNOW WILL
MIX WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN AT TIMES...PARTICULARLY SATURDAY
AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE PRECIPITATION WILL THEN CHANGE OVER TO
ALL SNOW AFTER MIDNIGHT. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES
ARE EXPECTED THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING. SOME ICE ACCUMULATION OF ONE
TO TWO TENTHS OF AN INCH ARE POSSIBLE. WITH GUSTY WINDS NEAR 40
MPH...AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW WILL OCCUR SUNDAY.

There are a lot of frustrated deer hunters around here. I'm just hoping
the Air Traffic Control system recovers in time for my trip
to the LA area on Monday morning.

i asked my neighbor a couple of weeks ago when it was 50 degrees out "this is what yankees call fall, right?" he laughed and was like, yea....and i said "sure feels like winter to me".....
