Hmm...

So I guess it is OK that the government sets up a committee to monitor speech.  Fine.  After all, Media Matters, Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting, and Accuracy In Media all monitor "speech", so why not the government?

Oh wait...the government has guns and "the force of law" behind it.   That's why they can chase down and kill/arrest terrorists and the New York Times can only write about it.

I'm all for the gov't being there to protect...that's why it is there, after all...providing for the common defense.  And sure, it can monitor all day long.   It is just when it starts to take action that we, as citizens, have to be concerned that the intent stays clear.

This sort of thing happens sereral times a day every freaking day. People use Free Speech to beat others over the head with mostly meaningless garbage. The real Point is that "Free Speech" (orignally Freedom of the Press) has gotten out of control. Look at the English Language since the founding of America; it has gotten ruder,  (how many parents teach their kids manners any more) and Cruder.( we actually have words like Ain't in the Dictionary! Ain't is a contraction of the word isn't. A contraction of a contraction? WTF?)

We need to trim the preverbial hedge that our Constatusion has become.
A bonsai tree only becomes Beautiful after many trimmings and prunings.

Two points here:
One:  The First Amendment protects free speech in addition to a free press.
Two: The Constitution needs revision.   I agree to that...come the Revolution we can add in a few things, such as term limits ( currently I'm in favor of one in Congress and one in Prison, both of equal length.)   I also think it needs to be clear that the the document is interpreted "as written" not "as we think now."

Here's the First Amendment...the thing that lets those of us in the U.S. have opinions we can express openly, even if no one else wants to hear them:
Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

free speech=saying something like "i think all fat redheads should be shot"......someone should be able to say that all they want to....

illegal action=actually going out and shooting all fat redheads.....for this they should get locked up.

if i hear someone exercising their right to free speech by saying i think all fat redheads should be shot, and then i decide to monitor them when fat redheads actually do start getting shot or threatened.....well...

its apples and oranges to me......but then i aint quite right im told.

edited cuz i cant type for chyt today it seems

I guess if it keeps up we can do what the Russian's finally did.  The govt. gave orders and the people in the tanks sat and visited with those they were supposed to be killing.

I wonder what message it would send if come election day no one went to vote?  Unfortunately I think we would just keep the same people in office another term.

Seeks, but if you said that all fat redheads should be "required" to join a Gym and that it was "mandatory" that they excercise 4 days a week you'd be in real deep shit!
