It takes a simple majority of the house to impeach…but the trial for impeachment takes place in the Senate and requires a 2/3 majority.
Impeachable offences are…”Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors

Now imagine 2/3 of anyone agreeing on what that means let alone the Senate… forget it.

A petition will have no legal weight and is useless and a waste of time. Instead call your member of the house they along with the members the judicial committee are the only ones that can impeach the President.

How many of you actually KNOWS what impeachment is?

The definition is very simple....A verb meaning to bring charges against.

Clinton was impeached but the charges did not hold and he was acquitted of the charge he lied under oath.  He was successfully impeached in that they successfully brought the case before Congres who served as the court, but he was acquitted and they did not get a guilty verdict.

What specific criminal act are you going to charge Bush with?   Failure to hold to his oath of office is not a crime.  Lying to the American people is not a crime.  What is the criminal act that you intend to charge him with and what evidence do you have that will prove his crime "beyond a reasonable doubt".   (Please note, it can't be upon a proponderance of the evidence as that's the standard for a civil court ruling.  A criminal ruling by THE CONGRESS would be required for successful conviction during an impeachment proceeding and it has to be 99.9% certain that he comitted a crime AS DEFINED by U.S. law.)

The best chance for impeachment is against Cheney for his involvement in the Valery Plame case, but we saw how difficult that was in a traditional court room.  Imagine how impossible it would be to simply bring charges with Congress serving as the court.

Criminal law has very little to do with morality and impeachment is a criminal law proceeding.

The Monkey lied, LOTS of people are needlessly being killed {war is ALWAYS needless} and he hasn't apologized for being a moron.

Being a moron is not an impeachable offense. Besides, if Bush is such a dolt, what does that say of Democrats who couldn't beat him in an election?

Sign my petition, it's about as relevant as your impeachment petition, and probably has more signatures

Sign the petition to look into his hanky panky and prosecute him for it AFTER he leaves office-and no longer has presidential perogative to protect him from it.

You people are so freaking impractical it's not even funny. If you want this shit to end-you need to make an example of someone-so the rest don't think they can get away with it too.

Now its true he's screwed up pleanty, but if it was Gore in the White House you'd be blaming him. Every body screws up we're only human, but to take a mistake (talking to the voters on this one) and and try to rectify it like this is just adding fuel to the fire.

There is no protection for felons.

The "Loyal Bushies" are literally "above the law". They are a different class of people than you, the "Ruling Class".

Get used to being a subject, slave.

Oh for fuck's sake, people, HE'S ALMOST OUT OF OFFICE.  WHY FUCKING BOTHER.

If you want to arrest/punish him for what he's done then figure out some other sort of legal precedings, but by the time an impeachment hearing gets underway, someone else is going to be sitting in the White House...

Where's my "wahmbulance" smiley?  Dammit!

Also, Pinksugarsub, you have the most annoyingly huge and vividly colored text I've yet to see on these boards.  Bravo.

It's called a Grand Jury.

The problem is that the UNITED STATES ATTORNEYS who are responsible for bringing the Bush Gang to Justice for their crimes have all been fired and replaced with crazy-religious-fundamentalists proven loyal TO the Bush Gang.

They are "Above the Law". There is no chance of any appropriate legal sanction for their crimes.

After reading some of the comments, one can see that the personal devastation of Bush Derangement Syndrome is as painful to watch as cancer, alcoholism, or a Ben Affleck movie. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Don't fall for the APPEARANCE of an opposition party. The DNC is just as culpable as the RNC. Mitnick was deprived due process for 5 years on Clinton's watch -- but he wasn't tortured. Discussions of the felony crime of torture aside --

You're talking about POLITICS. I'm not talking about POLITICS.

I'm talking about THE LAW.

Bush BROKE THE LAW.

Like Martha Stewart BROKE THE LAW. Martha Stewart was indicted by Grand Jury, arrested, tried, found guilty of the crime of making a material misstatement to a Government Agent in violation of 18 USC 1001, and IMPRISONED.

Like Marion Jones BROKE THE LAW. Marion Jones was indicted by Grand Jury, arrested, tried, found guilty of the crime of making a material misstatement to a Government Agent in violation of 18 USC 1001 and IMPRISONED.

George Bush BROKE THE LAW.

Why wouldn't you hold George Bush to the same standards as Marion Jones and Martha Stewart?

The impeachment fervor amuses me all to hell. Congressional Donkeys know there are no grounds for impeachment but keep tossing out red meat to placate the packs of ravenous, slavering hounds known as their base.

Pissant idiots!
