NaiveTempest -> RE: Fair and Balanced? (11/28/2007 8:52:45 PM)

I know people, honorable people who have served and do serve at GTMO, so I did not like that comment. And GTMO is no secret either. But much as I disliked that clip, I saw valid points on both sides. My question to those (and I use this term loosely) 'debating' in this post is "Can ALL of you admit that both sides had valid points?" We don't always have to like or agree with what another says  but that does not mean it is not a valid point. Reading this post is like watching that clip again...each side wants the last word, each side wants to trump the other. Name calling and pissing contests are what children resort too. I DO beleve America is going down hill. Sometimes people use extreme comparisions to "shock" people into paying attention. To, yes, "get their heads out of the sand." But if both sides of a debate just trade jabs at each other, insult each other, and ignore each others points infavor of their own then what is the point? WHAT PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE? It's like having two hens, one clucking in each ear. All you want to do is wring their necks instead of feed, nurture and protect them. Playing the game of 'One-upmanship' just makes both sides look bad and make me want to stop paying attention. You all are so smart and well read and have such great points but they're getting lost because of the shit slinging fest occuring. I plain to read her book knowing that I will agree with things and not agree with others, but I still want to learn what she has to say, what she has learned. And then I will get on with my life accordingly, not even remembering her name. Just some of her points.

And I do believe that the media twist things to the point of view they want to get across to the people; for the people to embrace. "look I find this ridiculous, so should you!" Peer pressure and all that. It's up to use to realise we need to find our own point of views instead of following/believing in the newscasters. Their job is more about getting ratings than facts, importance, or who they hurt in my opinion. I prefer CNN, maybe cause that AFN and Fox was all the military allowed on tv, lol.

Hey NT welcome to the war room!

I think its important to realize its not 1upmanship its about getting and keeping the record straight.

I wonder if you knew they literally had to shackle jefferson and hamilton to keep them from killing each other.  i believe by comparison we are quite tame here.

Did you know that there are enough renovated areas that are manned and ready to hold hmm its either 12 million or 18 million I forget now within our national borders.

Somewhere I have a signed pdf from the joint chiefs, pentagon or something along those lines authorizing them.

Our rights are being taken away by degrees so we dont notice.  Most people have no clue that their cell phones are all tapped and that the fbi can flip a switch and listen to you even when you phone is shut off!

Anyway this goes far beyond gitmo and is both national and worldwide and I personally have problems with someone trying to imply "everything" should be thrown out because they disagree about a matter of degree on one point.

I said what I said because i felt i was doing their homework for them and i feel they should do their own homework.
