I don't completely believe in soulmates, although I do respect those who have found theirs.

I will add something else to the mix. Sometimes you do find the "one" who makes your heart beat, who drives you mad with lust and longing, who fulfills your fantasies, who you really love and who loves you....

But...

You cannot get along for various reasons and you have given the relationship a very long time to try. Sometimes, that person you love is toxic for you. Sometimes they have problems that are too big for you to help them with and you find that the unhappiness they bring you outweighs the pleasure.

So, while you meet others along the way, sometimes the "one" still remains somewhere inside of you, never really to be replaced, and you can only hope that someday, you find someone who is more healthy for you emotionally and you hope that you will be able to find at least 50% of the passion you felt in the more toxic situation.

But, it is sad to think that you might never meet someone else who brings those feelings out in you again, and nothing in life is guaranteed.

So, you might have a sexual soulmate, or an intellectual soulmate, or an emotional soulmate, but possibly not the whole package that you dreamed of.

I have found 1 soulmate thus far and married him but I'm hoping there are more out there for me ....and I'm still looking for a nice sub/slave to add to help complete the family so to speak.

Maybe it is that I am very lonely now that my youngest has left the nest and there is no "one" but.. gosh I would slit my wrists today if I thought there was only supposed to be one match for me out there.
Right now I would settle for someone doable, forget that life time romance stuff, just basic compatibility that can be worked on and worn into a suitable fit.

It's just a chemical reaction in the brain that almost instantly makes "the one for you" just that. It's why people dreamed up the idea of Cupid so long ago, as when it happens it's just like you got shot. I personally think it's madness in some ways, it cause all sorts of horrors, from stalking to crimes of passion... love blindness, loss of appetite,...

So don't worry, you'll fall under "the spell" eventually. Or maybe you should worry!
