Well, if you'd pick better poster children than Tookie Williams and Mumia Abu-Jamal...

LOL! Poster-friendly defendants are rarer than one might hope.

...or even worse it was the White House........and suppose that, in order to silence the critic they outed his wife......who happens to be working undercover for the US......and then, once someone had been charged and convicted in relation to the offence that the president pardoned the perp. Appalling eh?

Thanks for making me chuckle early in the morning...

But as you stated in another post, both major parties here suck.

And suppose this woman wasn't undercover, that in fact her grade school child knew and told his whole class.

Which children? Valerie Plame Wilson has twins born in 2000 which would have been 3 years old in 2003 when the Bush administration tried to kill her. Or maybe you meant the 28 year old twins Wilson fathered in a previous marriage? Although I don't see these having a grade school class to tell. Or perhaps you are repeating scandalous lies.

In fact, what if she actually worked at CIA headquarters (no one undercover does, by defination) ? Suppose she sent her clueless about nuclear technology husband to a do an "investigation" about yellowcake inquiries by Saddam's regime in order to embarass the President. Both of them should of been out on their asses, unemployed, immediately. England and every other country that has intelligence assets in the area and commented about it still stand by the original story.

Plenty of CIA employees who may work at CIA HQ for a period of time still have covert identities. For instance Plame officially worked for Brewster Jennings and Associates which was a front company the CIA maintained for use as a cover employer. An unknown number of other CIA covert operatives were endangered and their careers ended when this cover company was outed by the Bush administration.

Joe Wilson may or may not be an expert in nuclear technology. However what he was sent to investigate was whether or not the Niger government had been involved in negotiations to send yellowcake to Iraq. Wilson was an expert on Africa and had spent time in Niger. When he arrived in Niger the US ambassador presented the reults of her own investigation which thoroughly debunked the claim but Wilson went ahead and performed an independent investigation into whether Niger's government had ever discussed selling yellowcake to Iraq. Both his investigation and that of Owens-Kirkpatrick indicated no such dealings and to the best of my knowledge no intelligence agency asserts any longer that any such deal existed. That includes England and all other nations with intelligence assets in the region.

And as far as the conviction goes. He was tried in a DC district that was 9 to 1 democrat. His counsel ran out of pre-empertory challenges to potential jurors because there's no one in DC that will give a republican a fair shake. Hence, his conviction for obstruction of justice *DESPITE* there being no underlying crime. A first in the US justice system.

First if a legitimate case for the bias of a juror can be made the defence can always challenge a juror. Peremptory challenges are for removal of a potential juror without cause.

Secondly even if there wasn't an underlying crime, in this case there definitely was, lieing to a grand jury or investigators is still perjury and obstruction of justice.

And boys and girls, if they can do it to him, they can do it to anybody. If you don't believe me just look at the outrage that Bush commuted his sentence instead of pardoning him. Since he wasn't pardoned he still has a right to appeal, an appeal that won't revolve around DC socialist jurors. Seems certain people in the government would rather see him pardoned instead of him getting a true hearing.

The true outrage is the GWB who repeatedly let men die in Texas with seriously flawed trials would dare to interfere in a case where the defendant got a fair trial. so fair in fact that his team of top lawyers could find not a single issue to raise on appeal.

I would appreciate it if you would post a link to whatever liar you drew your comments from. It will make it so much easier to deal with the next time someone starts spouting this particular line of nonsense.

......are you seriously suggesting that there are less than 12 republicans in DC? Even if the particular district is 9 to 1 democrat, then if there are less than 12 republicans then it must have a population of no more than 110. Somehow i think you may be mistaken........and thats before we consider your assertion that ordinary democrat citizens would pervert justice to score a political point.

Phil, I think it has been pretty well established, both in these forums, and in the world at large, that there is absolutely nothing some Democrats won't pervert to make a political point.

....surely there's ample evidence that the same is true of Republicans too.
Seems to me while partisan politics encourages such yah-boo attitudes then people of good will on both sides miss the real problem.....liars of whatever political stripe.

Maybe.  What I can say for certain is that most of the values that long made me lend my support to the Dems have either been crapped on, stashed deep in the attic, or chucked completely overboard in recent years.

I find the politics of hate even more offensive when coming from the same people who were snarking that "hate is not a family value" when that sentiment suited them.
