A by what right gives the Dom to claim anything he wants?

Status: offline 		Yes the online world has even made it possible for a Dom to OWN a slave and never see touch or smell her.

Married people have been owned by Masters or Mistesses they do not live with because they are married and live with thier partners.

The ideal is that you can do whatever you want in this lifestyle and call if whatever you want as long as it makes sence to the two or more of you and sure other people will say that it is or isn't realy but this lifestyle sould really only matter to your interpritations of it.

At least that is how I do it.

Status: offline 		Having read your reply I now see the direction of this question and it is an argument of semantics and truely one I am not interested in rehashing. Believe what you want to and leave the rest to what they want to believe. Why done someone elses opinion of this lifestyle matter so much to some people.

I do what I like and I don't do what I don't like. Does this make me a Master or my slave a slave? Who the hell cares what my slave is to me, or what I am to her for that matter .... We are HAPPY, shouldn't that be what matters most?

Me and my wife  live together are married and have a son. does this make me any more or any less a Master to a slave or Own my slave any more or less than a Master Online who owns a slave in another country who is willing to do whatever his or her owner desires? I think the relationship matters more to the person who is in it then it should to people who look at it from the outside.

well, first off...they are two different issues...without getting too much into semantics...i have never been owned by "a Dom" ...i have been owned by my Owner...and they were Dominant....but they were not "a Dom"....but...anyway...ummm ownership is not purely physical...it is mind and heart and spirit along with the physical...and so if physical is just 1/4th of the equation....then what does it matter if we don't live together? personally, i require regular physical interaction....and i would not put myself in a situation where i permanently did not live with my Owner...but....on a temporary basis...until things got straightened out....yea....life happens...

He and i do not live together, but i am His property. our living apart is by His choice; when we move in together, that will be His prerogative also. given our respective places in life at this moment, He thinks it is better for us to live apart (He lives about 10 minutes drive). personally, i would like us to live together, but i understand the reasons for His decision and it works out well for us. it doesn't change His ownership of me...i still serve Him in whatever way He chooses, whenever He chooses, and He still has the ultimate authority over my life. He's not a micromanager, though, and has lived alone for a very long time, and i am still learning to live on my own and be self-sufficient, so it may be awhile before we progress to that stage.

Status: offline 		Definitions are one of the most commonly argued issues on the boards.

-is a Dom a Dom if they don't have a sub/slave?
-is D/s still D/s if there is no BDSM?
-is a sub still a sub if they are not submissive to every Dominant that claims the title?
-can a submissive be owned, or only a slave?

The fact of the matter is that there are very few hard and fast rules in the community, and everything is apparently up for debate.  Do and believe what works for you and yours, and if you have an issue with another person or group; you are in no way obligated to acknowledge them or the rightness and wrongness of their labels, beliefs or actions.  If your desire is to find out if someone is truly owned if they live away from their Dom/Master, just go with what you choose to believe and it may or may not change over time.  If, on the otherhand, you just want to open up the question for debate or discussion; you will find many happy takers here.

I am  currently living that situation ...
 
He is my Master, I am his slave.  whatever that holds within depends greatly from couple to couple.
 
 Since it is our relationship it can be whatever He/we want.

The Dom can claim what he wants if the sub gives him that right. It is all in the initial negotiation. Consent is the key issue here. If this is in real time and the Dom is keeping a sub against his or her will, it is not D/s, it is kidnapping.

I notice - this is another thread concerning labels.. amd perhaps semantics.. 
For me there is a  difference between a Dom and a Master
just as there is a difference between a sub and a slave, but even those difinitions vary from person to person.

Regardless of labels and semantics, this answer is correct.  Can they if they don't live together?  Yes if they agree.

Status: offline 		Wonder what Knight and Kyra would say to this question.  They live many, many miles apart - different countries even - and I've never had any doubt what their dynamic is.  Distance doesn't have to mean jack.  It sure didn't for Master and I............luci

Edited to add:  I just want to add that it is so unnecessary to have to live together to be owned.  There are people right here on CM who live nowhere near each other and they are more "owned" than others who do or who live very near each other.  That criteria has zero to do with it.  I mentioned Knight and Kyra above but there are many others.  Does anyone here doubt that ownedgirlie is really owned?  She lives two hours from "Mr. Wonderful."  Think that means she is less owned?  Give me a break.  Saying a couple has to live together for one to be owned is certainly not accurate at all...........luci
