TB-tainted man crosses border 76 times By Sara A. Carter and Audrey Hudson October 17, 2007 A Mexican national infected with a highly contagious form of tuberculosis crossed the U.S. border 76 times and took multiple domestic flights in the last year, according to Customs and Border Protection interviews and documents obtained by The Washington Times. The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency was warned by health officials on April 16 that the frequent traveler was infected, but it took the Homeland Security officials more than six weeks to issue a May 31 alert to warn its own border inspectors, according to Homeland Security sources who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution. Lots of'em bring diseases, then when they come into America, they act LIKE a disease: Breeding rampantly, draining resources from the host organism to support their otherwise unsustainable reproductive rate, then try to change the host to their liking, regardless of the health of the host... All metaphor aside, that's one of the ideas behind immigration-control: Keep the diseased ones and known criminals out...Oh, wait, Ellis Island is now a national shame, a "museum of xenophobia"...Since we filter our air, our water, our food, even our SEWAGE, how much MORE important would it be to filter out bad PEOPLE? Maybe I'm just strange...common sense...[;)]

We don't rail against IMMIGRANTS! We have a very nice immigration system and let in more immigrants LEGALLY than any 5 other nations PUT TOGETHER! Still, this isn't enough. Due to a feeling of entitlement, and our long backlogs in our LEGAL immigration queues (We're the most popular ride in the world, so everyone wants to get in!), some feel their "needs" (read: greed) entitles them to ignore the law, skip the queues, and just break in! You couldn't get away with this in a nightclub, resturant, or theme-park, why should they expect to get away with it in a NATION? We had Ellis Island originally to filter out diseased and KNOWN criminal immigrants--at sender expense! Eventually, the senders stopped sending bad seeds--it was just too expensive! However, we have a 700-mile border with a little over 2,000 patrollers, so it's "easy" to sneak in (But then some die on the "dangerous"--yet "easy"--trek, and blame America for it!) We can't afford--figuratively or literally--to let just EVERYONE in...and since we're the hosts and ALLEGEDLY a sovereign nation in our own right, WE get to set the criteria, not the invaders!

Of course, I favor sensible public health and immigration policies. I just find it hugely entertaining that people are astride high horses when the United States was in fact founded by illegal immigrants and their descendants.

We never were illegals! The Indians were happy to trade away their land, because they didn't think we were serious...Buying LAND? Come on! [:D] Once they found out we WERE serious, they tried to fight and TAKE their land back (Forced Refunds!) They took the worst end of it! Now, of course, anytime the Americans want foreigns to stop inviting themselves in, somehow the Indians get brought up...If Americans WERE xenocidal/genocidal, we didn't do a very good job, Indians now live tax-free on small tracts of land literally GIVEN to them by the Government! And somehow, they've gotten just as addicted to electricity, air-conditioning, and other benefits of our "evil" First World nation as we are...They probably wouldn't revert to their "Noble Savage"(TM) old selves and ways, even if they could!

You do realize that the US has broken more treaties with Native Americans, than we have ever honored with other nations? You do realize that the US military was proven to have turned a blind eye to white attacks onto the reservations for years. Kid you need to do more reading of facts, and less listening to whoever is giving you this misinformation. To the OP, yeah it is a joke. Immigration needs to be strictly enforced, and then our immigration laws need some reform. Orion

Okay, it's documented fact that the Native Americans got shafted by settlers from all over. Some still do. But what has that got to do with border control and limits on immigration? Why is it that every time border control comes up someone has to equate it to the treatment of Native Americans. Wake up! They are not equivalent issues. If you feel bad about what happened to Native Americans then go drop a wad of cash at one of their casinos. They will be happy to help you. In the mean time lets control the borders so the Native Americans don't get squeezed out again along with the rest of the citizens.

Well, you're right, if we're already bleeding red ink, a few MILLION more parasites can't hurt us much more, right? Is it 12 MILLION or 40 MILLION? Even the illegals themselves keep changing: It's 12 MILLION when they are begging, down-on-their-luck idiots who "just want a better life"--at our expense! It abruptly JUMPS to 40 MILLION when they want to DEMAND concessions--or else! (How has America traditionally responded to foreign powers making incursions on our soil, and demands on our people? Perhaps they need a traditional 1783/1812/1847 welcome? Oh, that's right, they lost a previous war with America...where's all this Mexican arrogance coming from? While yours IS sadly the most cogent response I've heard lately, there's a variety of cultural, economic, educational, linguistic, etc. reasons. Basically, it boils down to: They want our money, they can learn our language. If their culture's so great, why are they fleeing it? Has it let them down? They can't feed and medicate their kids with their "culture", rather than demanding handouts from our culture? However, they DO teach their kids: Teach them to lie to authorities, to bleed our ERs dry with minor complaints, so they have to close their doors, and people with REAL problems have to hang on and try to make it to a more distant hospital, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, to hate American culture and everything to do with "Acting White"...You know, speaking English, obeying the laws, waiting for a license before driving, NOT doing/dealing drugs...since when were those bad qualities? Or are only the people who BELONG here supposed to follow our laws? Laws being for the law-abiding, and all that?

To answer this, I think one needs to divide the immigration "debate" into what I'll call text and subtext. By text, I mean reasoned, adult discussion about how to handle the difficult issue of illegal immigration in the 21st century. For that, I agree, the experience of Native Americans is irrelevant. By subtext, I mean the frothing-at-the-mouth tenor of some opinions, including some posts on this thread, that carry on as if illegal immigration is the worst human evil since Cain slew Abel and that demonize illegal immigrants as if they were monsters purposely trying to destroy our "way of life" rather than desperate people seeking the same things that drew generations of people to America. In the face of the subtext, I think the irony of the United States' own illegal-immigration roots is both striking and entertaining.

Last time I was in an ER I saw more dumpy looking white trash, than any hispanics, illegal or legal. My neighbors are hispanic, not sure of exact nationality. They all work construction. Of a morning they are the first ones out, before the sun comes up, and in the evenings they seem to be the last of the neighbors getting home. Their house is maintained well, much better than the white family across the street from me. They have get togethers with others of their culture, mostly families, and after 10pm at night, during these parties, you never see the kids running around because they are asleep with one or two of the females watching over them. This is much different than the white all night parties that happen around here, where their kids are up till 1 am, mingling with all the drunk adults. You seem to want to make alot of generalities and stereotypical comments, which shows your ignorance. Don't get me wrong, I see a problem with illegal immigration. I also see a problem with dumpy white trash in my neighborhood too. I would rather haave my hispanic neighbors, if they are legal, than the dumpy white trash neighbors. Judge each person on their own merits, parasites are born here in the US, and some even post on the internet. Orion

I want to go a step further, and sieze the fiscal profits of the corporations that hire illegals under the RICO Act, and similar legislation, as "proceeds of a criminal enterprise" Multinationals don't want to hire Americans because their motivation is PROFIT, not Patriotism...hell, our "culture", such as it is, WORSHIPS other cultures, and treats our own with absolute contempt! (Foreign good, American baaad...Animal Farm ripoff) You can't even point out that most Hispanics in jail aren't supposed to be even IN THE COUNTRY, because that's "racist"...Plenty of news stories show how evil and racist America is, especially our justice system...but oddly, if they hadn't committed the crimes, the (Insert foreign of your choice) wouldn't need to worry about the justice system, racist or otherwise! Pointing that out is probably considered racist by someone...Our Political Correctness BS has the Americans walking on eggshells so as to TRY NOT to offend the foreigns and minorities, who must have egos slightly less tough than soap-bubbles! What's happened? Our culture has weakened itself...Politeness is good, but this is getting ridiculous! But standing up for Americans over other countries is racist, right? [;)]

Busted pipe in the basement, and the house is flooding. Turn off the water, then fix the broken pipe. Assess the other pipes for replacement. Turn the water back on. Anyone seen bringing in contaminated water, and using it, is shot. Stop the border rush. Fix the outdated immigration laws. Revise the types of Visas, eliminate ones no longer needed and create other that are. Allow immigration back in. Seize companies that knowingly hire illegal immigrants. Why do the politicians make it sound so difficult? Orion
