i was in another war, vietnam, the areas are different, but the situations are similar,  i know that blackouts are necessary, cause all you need to do is watch American TV and the news people tell the enemy everything the military is gonna do, so it's all the news fault it's a blackout. i don't like news people cause they always lie..
don't worry about them over there, just pray and keep writing letters

Nikki,
First let me say that my heart goes out to you.  I don't have anyone away in the war right now, but I grew up with a father in Vietnam.  Communication back then certainly isn't what it is today.  We went through very long periods of no word - and it's agonizing to say the least!  Be strong, have faith, keep positive - that's the only way I know to endure it.

As far as your pet's dedication to his mates, as AFlyInYourWeb aptly pointed out, that's something that's hard for others to understand.  Do try to understand this, though, they share life and death together on a daily basis.  It bonds people in a way no other experience can.  It is something your pet will have to come to terms with.  After 30 years, my father still grieves the mates he lost & holds dear the ones still alive.

Big hugs and lots & lots of positive energy your way darlin'.

If you don't mind me asking.. why is your pet in the military if he has such issues?

We don't and cannot know how and when sachiaiko met him, either before or after his commitment or all of the reasons why he might have signed up. I am aware that, for some, the signup bonus is up to some $20,000, which is getting into the "down payment on a house" region for finances and that is pretty compelling.

I completely agree with AquaticSub. It would be very unwise for him to "come out" while overseas. He could forfeit his signing bonus, paid-for education, rehabilitation and many other advantages he is accruing. And a Dishonorable Discharge is the kind of thing that may make him utterly unemployable in the future. With an H.D. he can go to work (easily) as a teacher, for the USPS and many other civil service jobs that have pensions attached to them. With the D.D., he would have a very hard time realizing his dream.

Both of you need support, sachiaiko, as well as GhitaAmati and her Dom. You have my absolute best wishes and my full-hearted sympathy.

CuriousLord, I don't mean to flame your post but, these days, there are so many mitigating circumstances in peoples lives that one can never really know the whole story. I'd imagine sachiaiko's pet's anxiety problems are not necessarily due to issues created here in the US. Iraq is in a civil war where Americans are seen by both sides as invaders and occupiers. At least in Vietnam one side was ostensibly cooperating with the American presence even though one did not necessarily know which side a Vietnamese person was on.

It's quite alright.. I can't see a flame in this.  At the same time, though.. I'm not entirely sure what you were trying to say.

I mean, sure, there's a possibility he picked it up while he was in Iraq.  Due to the severity of it, that sounds unlikely, but I'm asking her why he's there.. which could include that as a possible response..

I only have pet cats but my ex husband has been in Iraq, well this is his umteeth round since Gulf I and Beruit in the 80's.

Although, all these years he is still 'stable' (as he can get lol) and chooses his team not to be mentally vulnerable to the over accumulation of hours on ground. Front line is no place for the medicated or easily stressed.  There is a fine line/junction when even a medic cannot hold all the necessary supplies of anti-depressants etc.  Too much risk is involved having to babysit the mentally inflicted.

How the USMC recruitment process allows the 'shakey' or disturbed to enlist in the first place is beyond me. Re-enlistment? uhhg, it used to be commonplace to just use removal of MOS and re-mush to rid of old blood to bring in new fresh meat.

As someone enlised in the USMC (poolee) I can only offer my prayers.
