littlehumbledone -> Just call me quirky and be done with it *grin* (10/15/2007 10:17:29 PM)

This morning whilst emptying out my CM mailbox, I had a small epiphany, nothing major or even extremely earth shattering, but something I certainly hadn't known about myself before.

Since I joined CM, I have had many messages from Dominants (and even a few Dominates) who decided that after reading my profile that I was someone they would like to get to know more, there have been, of course, the obnoxious few and the delete and block button is very handy.

Over the course of chatting to these Doms and deciding if we suited each other, I have noticed that after a few messages I usually get called 'Girl' now that doesn't worry me at all, I quite like it, and said in the right fashion it sets all my gooey girly bits going.

However I did find out that I do NOT like being called Woman, that makes me bristle right up, I don't know why, and it intrigues me a lot. Perhaps it has something to do with the tone, aside from a general descriptive use, as in 'That woman has left her bag behind'  or in a few songs, the word seems to be full of unspoken pejorative.

Does anyone else feel the same way, or perhaps about another word?

Perhaps I am just weird, I am always ready to accept that.

Well, there are varying positive and negative undertones to each word in the way they are used in the world.

Really need more information - how does it specifically make you feel when you're called "woman". Is it a hard tone inside your head? Does it make you feel defensive or older... knowing what your reaction to the word is will help you understand why you don't like it.

To me, girl is much more indearing than woman. There are several things I don't want to be called. As in the usual..bitch or my slut and I could go on but you get the idea. However, when someone calls me girl or little girl or baby girl, I just start to melt. It makes me feel cared for I guess.

Haha, yes, I know exactly what you mean, and Stephan constantly says "Woman!" (or Fucking Woman lol) when Charlotte or I get sassy or when we gang up on him ;)   It is definintely like the parents using the full, sixteen-sylable, middle name included when you're in trouble!

subbie is not a favorite of mine, nor do I like being called cunt, even in the submissive role.  Slut, whore, bitch, girl, Ma'am, all compliments for me.

Depends on the context.  i left a job once for my boss calling me girl.  His intent was to belittle me and it worked.  Master says i am a lil girl, which makes me feel all glowy :)

brattysarahjane -> RE: Just call me quirky and be done with it *grin* (10/16/2007 5:56:32 AM)

Master calls me woman when He's in a playful mood, but i don't like to hear it from other people.  i also like it when Master calls me girl or baby girl.  i agree with Tigrita though that sometimes being called woman is like when your mom called you your middle name when you were in trouble.  It's just worrisome then.

O.K....quirky and weird.  [:D]

toservez -> RE: Just call me quirky and be done with it *grin* (10/16/2007 7:40:06 AM)

I think it makes sense. I think it is a societal thing. Girl is generally used in the world as a playful term while woman is generally used in a more serious and off putting manner. I have the same reaction you would have if I know the person. Calling me a girl I would be at first assuming something light or nice. Being called a woman I would be braced for something all together different.

GhitaAmati -> RE: Just call me quirky and be done with it *grin* (10/16/2007 7:49:34 AM)

woman to me is more..well...said like an order...like...woman bring me the remote. Or..move woman...kinda well..negitive...girl is much more erhm..lovey?..I dunno..maybe were all weird and quirky...

slaveelle -> RE: Just call me quirky and be done with it *grin* (10/16/2007 8:03:51 AM)

Littlehumbledone,

I can honestly say for me the word "woman" leaves me feeling inadequate. In a former relationship it was used often, and was always prceded with "your just a". Most words and names i handle very well, whore, bitch, slut, cunt, but its that one words "woman" that sends shivers down my spine.

sapphirepleasure -> RE: Just call me quirky and be done with it *grin* (10/16/2007 8:11:39 AM)

I really hate being called girl, especially after a week with a gorean couple.  In the context of a relationship (especially if it was prefaced by 'My') I could probably get used to it.

One time someone called me 'daughter' and it totally squicked me, which is strange because I enjoy calling someone Daddy or being called little girl, if there's that kind of connection.  But 'daughter'? I totally shut down.

I really hate getting initial or early emails where I am addressed as 'slave', 'sub', 'cunt', 'bitch' or things of that ilk.

And another pet peeve of mine is when I send an email and sign it with my real name capitalized and receive a response where my name is in lowercase.

Yes!  What the fuck gives them the right to decide you're a lower-case individual!  I got one with my name lowercase and extra small font, and his initial cap in gigantic red font.  Had me ROFLMAO.

I just got a two word email:  hello slaveflesh

hmmm.  I responded by asking him if that intro was working for him because it certainly wasn't for me!  (I haven't heard back.)

You described exactly how it feels to me too.

junecleaver -> RE: Just call me quirky and be done with it *grin* (10/16/2007 10:15:26 AM)

He usually says, 'Stop it, woman!' if I'm getting on his nerves.  'Girl' is more of a soft loving sort of thing.  I've never really thought about it though.  That's interesting.

Viridana -> RE: Just call me quirky and be done with it *grin* (10/16/2007 12:21:19 PM)

For me, one of the most silly things I've encountered in the world of bdsm are full grown, middle aged women, referring to themselves as girls. I'm sure it works wonders for them..... but every time it just makes me giggle a bit inside.

This is true, it's just that I hadn't noticed before any sort of reaction to that word, until now, and I really can't remember why I feel this word makes me raise my hackles so much, after all it's not like they were calling me slut or whore to my face.

Yes, thats it definitely, it makes me feel like I have to go on the defensive, like I am about to be attacked, verbally of course, how strange.. I wonder why.
