To me, girl is much more indearing than woman. There are several things I don't want to be called. As in the usual..bitch or my slut and I could go on but you get the idea. However, when someone calls me girl or little girl or baby girl, I just start to melt. It makes me feel cared for I guess.

The same here, I'm not overly fond of people I do not know calling me slut or bitch, that smacks of so much disrespect for me, if they treat a stranger that way how would they treat someone they know, whereas girl sounds so much softer than woman.

Haha, yes, I know exactly what you mean, and Stephan constantly says "Woman!" (or Fucking Woman lol) when Charlotte or I get sassy or when we gang up on him ;)   It is definintely like the parents using the full, sixteen-sylable, middle name included when you're in trouble!

Ahhh THAT'S perfect, yes, it certainly like being called your full name, and thats when you know you are in trouble, as I said it puts me on the defensive.. so yes I am weird I guess..

I think it makes sense. I think it is a societal thing. Girl is generally used in the world as a playful term while woman is generally used in a more serious and off putting manner. I have the same reaction you would have if I know the person. Calling me a girl I would be at first assuming something light or nice. Being called a woman I would be braced for something all together different.

Thank you!  That is what I was trying to pin down, that is exactly it, it puts me on the defensive, as though I have to protect myself from something, like I've done something wrong and I have no idea what.

Littlehumbledone,

I can honestly say for me the word "woman" leaves me feeling inadequate. In a former relationship it was used often, and was always prceded with "your just a". Most words and names i handle very well, whore, bitch, slut, cunt, but its that one words "woman" that sends shivers down my spine.

I am sorry to hear that that was your experience, for myself I can't say that I have had that sort of experience with the word, but for some reason it just makes me feel like I have to get ready to defend myself agaisnt some sort of verbal onslaught.

My late husband used to call me "woman" as a term of endearment, so I have no problem with it at all. He meant it as in an "all women, sexy" kind of way .But "girl" on the other hand took a bit of getting used to for me. Somehow made me feel little and immature. Doesn't do that to me now, but I'm still ok with "woman"

He usually says, 'Stop it, woman!' if I'm getting on his nerves.  'Girl' is more of a soft loving sort of thing.  I've never really thought about it though.  That's interesting.

Yes, to me girl is much more loving and as said gets my gooey girly going, whereas woman makes me close right up.

That sounds lovely, perhaps I need to have some positive experience with someone calling me woman, and then I would get over it, in the beginning girl used to make me feel a bit squicky, but now it works for me.

I don't like anyone presuming a social closeness to me to call me anything but my introduced name.

Once social closness is established, then of course whatever works for the relationship is fine.

Oh yes, for some reason the spelling used for that just sets my teeth on edge, it looks so wrong.

Hmmm if its my Dom/Top/Master calling me "girl" or "slut" or names like that I don't mind at all, I love it.

I don't care to be called woman though. Had an ex that did that and it used to piss me off. I also dislike being called "cunt" and "whore". Not sure why, but they can tend to be mood killers for me.

Oh to be cuddling, having my hair stroked and be asked who I am and have to respond "Your good slut" or "Your good girl" thats heaven right there.

That certainly does sound like heaven and one day something I hope to have.. that would certainly get my gooey girly bits going.
