Honestly your buddy would be better off getting an attorney that knows the local judges and their predilictions than attempting to self-diagnose his own issues or hide assets.

What she said.

The best way to avoid this mess is not to get married in the first place.

I can't be the only one who has witnessed that KL is getting more beautiful with every passing day?

If he is only thinking about it tell him to see a good lawyer for advice.

Often times both are ready for a divorce. If that’s the case try to control the anger…use a common lawyer, cheaper that way. Have the property settlement agreed upon before going to court…don’t let a judge dictate the settlement if possible.

Try not to let anger and resentment overcome good since. Set the right atmosphere of fairness and compromise. It will save him money and help in the future relationship if children are involved.

That is the advice I would give.

Or perhaps I'm just a tired, repressed, divorcee.  hehe

Popeye, it depends on what the laws are in Massachusetts.  What applies here in Texas (community property state) may not apply elsewhere.  Here, I believe the way it would go is that the original 100k would not be divided, but the dividends and interest on it might be.  I'm not sure on that, though.
