I'm starting to feel sorry for Obama.  His own kind are now upset because they don't feel he's "black enough".
What exactly does "not black enough" mean?

Don't you know that blacks are supposed to all think alike? Usually conservative blacks get accused of this because they don't think in lockstep as they should. Sounds a bit like racism to me.

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: jesse is mad... (9/20/2007 4:30:56 PM)

i suspect "not black enough" means he actually tries to do things to help all people, in a fair manner, rather than making his living by running his mouth loudly when he gets a photo op.

What do you think Rush Limbaugh is saying/thinking/meaning,when he calls Obama a "halfrican"?

What a cute name for Rush to make up and spread.

Sounds a bit like racism to me.

Identifying someone as the "house negro" is not racism, it might just be a statement of fact. Hear it from the "field negro" himself:

That said, I don't care for either Jackson or Obama.

i was in college when a black friend of mine said i wasn't "black enough" to be black because i spoke properly and conducted myself in a manner she wasn't used to. basically she said i was "too white" for my own race.  today, i still get the same comments from my neighbors - i'm looked upon as being uppity or white because of the way i raise my UMs.  it's sad.

I discriminate between people according to the colour of their font. A black font is good.

i worked with a very lovely black man in atlanta.  when it was just him and i working on a job (we did packouts for a moving company)  he was polite and sweet and a wonderful person to be around.  when there was a third person added to the mix....he was rude and obnoxious and couldnt speak correct english.

i asked him the difference, and he said that i expected him to be well educated and intelligent, so he was.  and that his black friends....expected him to be just as ignorant as they were.  he preferred working with me because i let him rise to a higher level without bringing him down.

kitten, who sees people as people...not by what color skin they're wrapped in.

Anyone who wants some insights into the black community and black identity, should see "School Daze",by Spike Lee.

It delves into the"are you black enough"thought process, plus other situations, that whites don`t have a clue about.

In all seriousness, how many hours a day do you spend learning the latest drivel from the mouths of Rush, Coulter, and the rest?

Don't you hate it when "your own kind" try and fuck you over...."My kind of woman" is a lean mean fucking machine....."My kind of guy"  is easy going, fun to hang out with, have a few beers and a laugh or two, watch the game and stays the fuck away from "my kind of woman."

i attended an all-black university and i could identify every aspect of that movie - i was told not to pledge because it would change me to stop "acting" white (wannabe) and be my "natural" black self (whatever that was) to stop acting middle class etc - i was completely bombarded from all sides ...even after pledging Zeta Phi Beta, i was still the same person before i pledge

RosaB -> RE: jesse is mad... (9/21/2007 7:57:37 AM)

I grew up being ridiculed for the way I spoke and conducted myself as well (not black enough to some). I have to say, moving to the area that I'm now in, this became an issue once again.  A friend of a friend has nicknamed me white girl and a few others have made some snide comments here and there.  I make no appologies for who I am, as I know I am just as normal in who I am as they are in who they are.    But, don't get it twisted, I can slip into Ebonics/ghetto, (which in my mind should be just as respected as any other foreign language,) lingo at the drop of a hat if I need to, though some times it don't sound to fresh commin out of my mouth.   [:D]

I mean really  there's a vast community of black people out  in the world; and though many seem to believe otherwise, there's no one way all black people behave or think.  I know within my own family people are complete opposites in how they conduct themselves and in how they feel about each others mannerisms.  My mother's side of the family are from the south , generally most are edumacated and speak in a manner that would be oh so very well accepted in the general populas of middle America.

Obabi should be representing all the people not any one group.  Its a shame we're still having to be so focused on the man's ethnicity in this day and age.

mnottertail -> RE: jesse is mad... (9/21/2007 8:01:26 AM)

There are as many fears, prejudices and foibles in black humans as there are in white humans, so I am advocating that we all fuck each other (me and black girls especially---rest of you do what you fosed tuh) and get everybody towards center and give up all this fuckin nonsense.

Thank you.  I thought that is what it might have been referring to.  I just wanted to be sure.  I tell you- his own is going to make it very difficult for him to succeed in life if he is constantly being measured by his lack of ebonics :/

(and thank you for being you :)

Alumbrado -> RE: jesse is mad... (9/21/2007 8:53:52 AM)

Can't find a link, but I'm reminded of an interview with a young man who was pursuing a living as a classically trained musician... he related being  accused of not keeping it real because he was 'playing the white man's music'.

When he asked his critics why they wanted to play 'the white man's basketball', the replies were predictably few.
