i was in college when a black friend of mine said i wasn't "black enough" to be black because i spoke properly and conducted myself in a manner she wasn't used to. basically she said i was "too white" for my own race.  today, i still get the same comments from my neighbors - i'm looked upon as being uppity or white because of the way i raise my UMs.  it's sad.

Thank you.  I thought that is what it might have been referring to.  I just wanted to be sure.  I tell you- his own is going to make it very difficult for him to succeed in life if he is constantly being measured by his lack of ebonics :/

my oldest UM is experiencing this in her HS first hand - she's one of a handful of students who aren't black in a black majority school (trust me, there's only 5 of them). the first 2 weeks of school, she was labeled "white girl" because of her very fair skin and the way she speaks in class - proper and with manners. a male student was suspended from school because he wrote racial statements about my oldest on her desk. she gets it worse from the female population however she doesn't let it bother her most days ...yet i can tell it does.

my youngest UM is gradually experiencing the same not from her friends in the K-class but from their parents ..."oh your daughter has pretty skin ...she has such pretty hair ...." etc etc.  many equate (at this age) fair skin being the prettiest of them all especially since she's in the 10% that isn't black at her school.  plus they are amazed that for her age she's speaking proper english with an unlimited vocabulary.

I do carpentry,and the radio`s always on.After listening to every song,eight times a day,I would dial to the AM side,to listen to the train-wreck radio that right-wingers did.Bob Grant was  very entertaining,especially right before he got fired for saying something really stupid,after Ron Brownwas killed in a plane crash.

I was listening to Rush`s show,when he 1st came on WABC,more than 20 years ago.I remember when he did ads for Snapple Soda(his earliest days).



When I surf the dial,I stop in to see what he`s up to.Keeping my "enemies closer",so to speak.I don`t focus or pay more attention on Rush,than that.BTW,when Clinton 1st won,and then the 2nd time,Rush was the most entertain fella,EVER.He was doing back flips,and having conniptions.The best radio I`ve heard.

For years now,Rush ,and the right wing media/leadership of every kind,coordinate their message,and form "talking points",which every right-wing broadcaster repeats,creating an echo chamber.

The "Wednesday Morning Meeting",as it`s called,is attended(in person or by vid-conference) by White House staff,Roger Ailes of Fox News,Newt Gingrich,republican congressional leaders,Rush,Ann Coulter,Robert Novak,etc.,etc.,etc.
Around a hundred of the right-wing media elite,planing,shaping,coordinating,and all getting on the same page.



The Daily show does a good job of showing this,by making very funny montages of the clips,with every person saying the same thing,word for word,over and over.It`s almost "Orwellian".

It all sounds like what they accuse the left of doing,(ie,the left-wing media conspiracy crap),onlt it`s exactly what the right-wingers are doing.

This "media coordination" has caused a great deal of damage.

I feel for ya... the music selection on most FM sucketh (Memphis being a bright spot), I tried listening to talk radio but couldn't stand any of it for more than a few minutes.

Seriously, I don't understand why these folks don't lose credibility when their seemingly inevitable hypocracy is brought to light. I'm speaking here of Rush's drug problems, similar to Larry Craig's alleged homosexuality/anti-gay legislative slant. How about Newtie's infidelity on the heels of his orchestration of the impeachment of Bill Clinton because of sexual dalliances?

Democrats are not imume from hypocracy, but it seems to me they are less likely to soapbox their morality in the first place. I'm just saying...
