SimplyMichael -> RE: Iran: we'll bomb Israel if attacked (9/20/2007 4:09:16 PM)

Israel got a break and probably US help when it struck Iraq's unfueled reactor. Nobody believed Israel could strike that far and so nobody worried about defense. Iran learned from Iraq's mistake and so Iran's infrastructure is widely dispersed and hardened as well as bristling with AA and there is an even bigger difference, Iran's nuclear facilities are fully fueled, unlike the strike on Iraq, any hit on Iran's infrastructure will spread radioactivity far and wide. While I would never be one to underestimate the Israelis, hitting Iran's multiple sites is a vastly more complicated attack both militarily and politically. In addition, Iran is trying to maintain the subterfuge she is not supporting Hammas and others against Israel, an attack by Israel would end that subterfuge and Iran would be justified in supporting them openly and that is NOT in Israel's long term strategic interest. Everyone knows that Iran is going to come out of the Iraq war on top with a greatly enhanced strategic position, economically, politically, strategically, and militarily. Israel would do well to step back and have the US do their dirty work.
