i finally asked my mom why she took my label maker away when i was a kid...she said it was because i labeled the dog....i asked her what i labeled the dog as....she said "DOG"....

true story...

labels...I hate labels...mainly for this main reason. Not everyone has the same definitions for the same words...so if I give myself a label...people are expecting me to live up to some preconcieved notions they may have...or I might be exceeding those notions. Not all of me is gonna fit in someone elses "box". Either there are parts of me left hanging out, or there is too much room left over in the box once Im in there. I put submissive on the front page here....cause you have to put something...but at a BDSM event or convention, if someone asks me what I am, I answer "Im a girl". I havent found anyone who has mis understood that one yet....although I have had someone clarify that I was born that way.....I think they responded with the word "genetically?".

Damn if that aint an insult....of course I was at a gay male leather bar....so....maybe its to be expected...shrugs

Labels should not define who a person is. It is an identifier that makes it easier to quickly assess someone and what direction they go - even if they go multiple directions. A person can assign any label they want to themselves, and truly believe from their standpoint they fit that label. Yet if they do not meet your own personal standards for that particular label you may not regard them in the same light they do themselves. Maybe you wouldn't challenge them but you probably wouldn't take them seriously either.
