The article says her water had been turned off for 9 months, even though she was living there at the time of the arrest. Makes you wonder if she could afford running water there.

The laws get nuttier and more restrictive all the time and yet we do nothing to get the nitwits out who put them on the books. City, state, and federal people who are supposed to be doing our will not their own. Yet mostly they could care less what the public in general wants.

Wow careful people there are good law enforcement personnel and bad law enforcement personnel just like there are good and bad garbage men. I've had the opportunity to know quite a few very dedicated caring officers in my time whom I consider friends and ponder how they can do what is a very difficult job day in and day out. Unfortunately the few bad apples can cause alot of harm to an otherwise hard working bunch of men and women who do a job that most of us would not do.

Media is rarely a good source for determining what happened in a controversial situation as it tends to feed into the anticipated emotional response for more readers/viewers. I don't know if granny is jack the ripper or had disobeyed every other law on the books or the cop is an overbearing fool, but I know the posted story isn't the source of information to find this out.

With regard to laws, alot of small towns/cities have silly laws that are rarely enforced, sodomy is still illegal in many places. Unfortunately, what I have sometimes found to be true is people that are advancing bills to be made into laws are either what I refer to as "dogooders", that is people that don't have alot of knowlege of what the other 99.9 percent of the population lives like, or people that this issue for whatever reason is so important to them, they don't stop to think how the law will fit into the everyday society and other laws we all must attempt to follow or the time and resources the law will take that could be spent otherwise in more pressing situations.

We write these laws. The public writes the laws that the police enforce. It is within our power, and it always has been, to change the laws that govern our land. And if those in power resist our right to change them, then it is our responsibility to overthrow that government. By arms, if necessary.

My last interaction with cops besides a few speeding tickets (which i deserved) was when they did their job and arrested the fucking asshole who broke into my apartment and stole about $1000 worth of musical equipment. They got my stuff back and took a (newly) 18 year old THUG off the streets. The detective I worked with was completely professional and understanding. This kid who broke into my place had just turned "adult" and had over a dozen arrests as a juvenile. He was awaiting sentencing on another felony and was suspect in one or two others including auto theft. He is currently serving almost 20 years for all of them. If it was up to me the little prick would be compost right now, thankfullyit was handled by men with calmer heads.

+1 positive result.

Unless this woman is an HIV infected, spitter, those cops should face some serious consequences.

As for the yard, how does that old saying go, Real? Your right to swing a fist ends at the tip of my nose? Perhaps you've missed it, but there are a lot of people trying to sell their homes before they lose them. In this market, a dead lawn a few doors down can easily affect the price of a home. What about their rights?

"Democracy" in action! At its finest!

They are called zoning laws- they also say that I can't store junked cars on my lawn, or stack trash to the sky next to your house. Sometimes they may be inconveniant, but they are also handy to have around.
