ORIGINAL: earthycouple LeMis...that is very accurate. I wouldn't even talk to a doctor who would do this type of surgery randomly for any and all who simply wish to lose weight. The other thing is the mental health aspect. Any patient doing this must be capable of it mentally...the challenges are much harder than one may think post op. A good friend of mine had the lap banding procedure. I remember one night, not too long afterwards, she called me up in hysterics b/c she was so hungry but physically couldn't eat more than a few bites. She didn't expect to experience hunger pangs after the surgery. The first month or two after the procedure were very hard on her. Krissi, please get a second opinion and research all your options before agreeing to something so drastic. Why your doctor is even suggesting this when you don't meet the criteria for it is something I'd be concerned about. Something else to consider is the cost. My friend had to pay for her surgery completely out of pocket b/c it was considered a cosmetic procedure, though other insurance companies may provide full or partial coverage. In any case, good luck with your lap chole....please let us know how you're doing afterwards Taryn
