Wow, my first thought was
"I think the war is a sham too, but I never thought I'd agree with Newt".
than I clicked one of the links.
Not that another mid-east summit will be better than the last 20; but I wonder if he might go on to saying anything the rest of the country HASN"T been thinking for the last several years?
I guess his solution is to go to war with 3 countries like world war two, instead of the two us lazy americans are razing and loosing in right now?

Actually he said that his statements are being taken out of context...

He didn't mean that the war itself was phony. But that the way it has been fought has been phony. In other words, he is saying he would have done it differently than Bush has. And that the war is basically "phony" at this point because it isn't accomplishing anything with the current strategy. Therefore, Bush is pushing a phony war on terror.

Bush's claims used to get Congress to authorize action were Phony up and down the line.

We call it FRAUD.

The problem is ALL governments are that way.

The biggest mistake people make is not thinking for themselves about "everything else" that the government will do.

Look at homeland screw-u-ity (auchtung). .0015 of all the cases they process are related to terror and the rest are us citizens. (so why the fuck do we have it)

How about spying on terrorists? Now its spying on us.

Everything the government has done for years has been done with a dual purpose, one that sounds good and the actual intent and everyone does the uncle honest joe sam dance.

All it took for me to wake up is when i was talking with a foreigner and i parroted the phrase "hey its free country". Biggest mistake i ever made as they proceeded to remind of the differences and how in reality we are nothing more than preprogramed slaves who do not know the difference.

this regime may well have done this country a huge favor by making this shit so obvious that even the hardline party followers will have to take notice.

Excellent post. Outside of watching ESPN's Sportcenter before I go to sleep at night, you've just outlined why I basically ended {little over a year ago} my subscription to cable /satellite television.

What Newt meant was that we are not fighting Terror, which is an idea, we are fighting radical Islam.

I suspect that the right wing defections will proceed apace with left wing rationalizations as to why they need to keep the Patriot Act, warrantless surveillance, secret arrests, and troops deployed, once they are in full power.

-total agreement here. Would Mrs Clinton and the rest REALLY think she was being sold a proper bill of goods when she voted to authorize the invasion of Iraq? If the dem's just re-authorized wire tapping, clearly, most politicians in washing all have the same national goals. Bipartisanship already exists and has for a long time, its just the illusion of a two party system which keeps us voting. We need Lockheed to keep in the green and replacing bombs dropped and we need oil rich countries too concerned with war and security to actually become organized and politcally/economically first world, formidable states.
