Personally I hate any bleeping of words...I don't think any should be erased

Jeremy Piven commented on having to re-do the audio for Entourage to get rid of all the four letter words.  Said Ari Gold had to use words like "freakin" in case the show went into syndication.

He described it as the artistic equivalent of an anal probe.

Just an observation to no one in particular.
I find profanity to be the linguistic crutch of the illiterate motherfucker.

This is often the case.  Also:  Damn straight, biatch.

Profanity also serves another, very real and legitimate purpose.  Erm.. which I suppose I'll have to mention later.  Sort of out of time.

Context, no?

Bitch is a term of endearment I reserve for my male friends. 'Bad words' are seldom 'bad' in the social circles I twiddle about in.

I wouldn't swear at somebody I wished to insult, what would be the point? It wouldn't offend them. If I'm out to denigrate, there are a million better and more descriptive ways! (Starting with 'mate' and 'pal'.)

I know a dozen words I could use instead of 'Yo, mothafucka', they just aren't always right for the occasion. I readily call my best buddies misbegotten wretches, as often as bitchfisting uncle-fuckers. (With love, of course)

Assumptions that 'bad language' indicates poor vocabulary are just that. Language is a pleasure of its own, and foul language equally so. If not, you're doing it wrong :)

I think my point is.. it isn't the words you use, but how you use them.

Of course this could just be indicative of the emotional retardation of my generation, we flinch from obvious affection and are capable of expressing it only in negation. The poison of the age of irony.

But I prefer to think of verbal communication as being as much a plaything as a means to an end. Why restrict yourself from a subset of words merely because some people have decided they will be offended? I do believe in respecting the feelings of others - I'm not about to walk up to a stranger and bellow "Alright there ya cunt?" by way of introduction, any more than I'd spit on their shoes. I fail to see why I can't pick and choose words I and those I communicate with take pleasure in however.

The women in my life have fouler mouths than the men by streets, leaps, bounds and hopscotch. Not for want of other ways to say the same things, but because sometimes is fuckin' fun to swear ;)
