Ever notice how any slurs against the female populace seems acceptable and mainstream on TV, yet the word SHIT is bleeped?

It's evidently OK to insult your mothers/sisters/wives, yet we bury the N word with holy reverence.

I think the H word, the B word and the C word should be erased as well.

Alumbrado -> RE: Bleep... Bleep (7/24/2007 10:35:51 AM)

And yet Jimmy Buffet has an expurgated verion of Mararitaville, because we are suddenly too delicate to hear something on the radio that rhymes with 'riches'.[8|]

windchymes -> RE: Bleep... Bleep (7/24/2007 10:49:30 AM)

Actually, that's in "Changes in Latitudes" [:)]

Arpig -> RE: Bleep... Bleep (7/24/2007 11:33:39 AM)

Personally I hate any bleeping of words...I don't think any should be erased

Ahhh... my bad... Too many nights playing the same dozen or so Buffet songs has blurred them together.

TheHeretic -> RE: Bleep... Bleep (7/24/2007 12:21:55 PM)

Sorry.  "Bitch" has become so accepted in entertainment, the word even gets used in the new Harry Potter book.

Maybe we'd see less of the word if we saw less of the behavior it describes?

satyrsnymph28 -> RE: Bleep... Bleep (7/24/2007 12:45:06 PM)

haha i was infact surprised at that... and "effing" which is used... exactly like that... several times...

ohh goodness... this world we live in... whats happening

sometimes "ass" is ok and sometimes its not... especially in music
and my radio station plays that song called "bitch" regularly... without the word bleeped out

i think its weird...

and God was bleeped out in one of the newer songs by a band i rather like...
yet the DAMN that followed it, got to stay...

i listened to a UM drop the f -bomb on the radio the other morning

these kids aren't censored...but society and the media are...

i dont get it

CuriousLord -> RE: Bleep... Bleep (7/24/2007 12:53:39 PM)

Honestly, I think people are just over-senstive twits to have such a fear of such words.  You can't even say, in the context of discussion of such, the 'N-word'.  I mean, seriously, you all know the word I'm talking about when I say 'the N-word'.  Nonethless, it would be offensive if I actually said 'nigger'.  (Yeah, deal with it.)   It's just a freaking word.  Same for 'bitch', 'cunt', 'cracker', etc.  They're idiotic words that giving such reverence to only serves to heighten them.

There's really no better way to give a word power than to lock it away with a golden key.  The word "fuck"'s lost it's meaning since people use it constantly.  Now what the fuck does fuck mean?  Who fucking knows.  You can fucking put it anywhere.  The fucking word is just a fucking stupid thing fucking stupid fucking people fucking can fucking put fucking anywhere.  It's fucking not fucking worth fucking saying anymore.

My point being, who cares?  The emotional individuals concerned with such words need to stop playing the victim and just grow up.

The Stranger "One more thing, Dude, do you have to use so many cuss words?"
El Duderino "What the fuck you talking about?"
The Big Lebowski.

Kinda says it all, really.

Words never bothered me. I just disassociate myself from people who's only method of communication and debate is focused on denigrating others. It doesn't matter if its on TV, in writing, or in person. Whether the name calling and insults are directed to "mothers/sisters/wives" or the President; it indicates the same thing - ignorance and deficient of communication skills.

Some people show their ignorance by their actions. Others need to be allowed to talk to provide proof.

However, your point about the prejudice regarding woman reminds me to raise awareness of a civil/social project that beth has embarked. I won't hijack this thread to discuss it, I'll start a new one.

PS - Is the 'H' word the old 'W' word or is a reference to the 'Horta', a silicon based tunneling life form living on Janus VI in the original Star Trek, now a derogatory insult?

I agree completely words only have power if you give them power

Heh.  Who knows?

I was trying to figure it out, too.  "Honkey", "hell", "hiney", "hootchie", "hick".. could also be "hobo" or "heck", I suppose.. "hell" and "honkey" are probably the two most likely?  Or, perhaps, it's "hotachi": the new derogatory term for people who bring up unspecified derogatory H-words.

He's a freaking hotachi, eh?  (That's right- feel the burn.)

Careful LS, someone`s going to accuse you of being politically correct, and wanting a "nanny state" to slap our hands when we`re bad.Like what happened to Don Imus.

Seriously, words can and do hurt, even if they`re "just words".To show some class isn`t PC,it`s just good manners and about not being rude or disrespectful.

It`s true that the impact has been lessened w/ curse words.Gays made "queer" a term of endearment, and took the bite out of the word.Still there`s plenty of horrible things to call gay people.

There are plenty of words though, that haven`t lost their bite.Hurtful ,degrading words and phrases can be devastating in the right context.

I find the more emotionally immature and illiterate one is, the more they use these words because of their limited vocabulary.  Some people can't even form a sentence without the F word.  I take it as them seeing themselves as mature when they use the big boy word.. F.  (emphasis on "boy" here)

My post was a simple observation.  It also amazes me when they bleep the word God.

I find it that those who are unable to say a word, for fear of it, and must refer to the obvious by some other reference, are often short of emotional maturity.  (emphasis on "trying to insult you while calling myself mature" here)

It's like using "UM's" instead of "kids" here on the boards.  It's not any less inappropriate- it's just a flag saying, "It's inappropriate, but I'm aware it's inappropriate".  Such speakers are still emotionally threatened by such words, referring to these words within themselves as adults would to one another around children.

You can say "fuck".  You're no more mature for referring to it as "the F word".  You should still use "the F word" when people are about that may not understand what that means.  But this is CollarMe.com's message board.  People here whip eachother bloody to make orgasms more enjoyable.  You need not worry about children overhearing what's said here, for there's worse as-is, should they be audience to these boards.

No, but I have noticed how it's okay to shit on men, but not women.

Edited to add: in a metaphorical sense.

What about the R word, the T word, and the M word? And then there's the D word... won't someone PLEASE think of the children??

Censorship is funny, though... on TV you can say "damn it", but if you say "God damn it", they bleep out "God". Likewise, you can say "ass" or "jack ass", but if you say "asshole" they bleep out "hole".

No shit.

Speaking of which, through the miracle of the Internet you can Japanese porn showing one person shitting into another person's mouth, and that's just fine and dandy... but the genitalia are blurred out, because nobody wants to see that! So the U.S. hardly holds a monopoly.

Frankly, though, i find most censorship to be a bit ridiculous. You can say "sex" or "intercourse", but not "fuck". Um, folks, THEY'RE THE SAME FUCKING THING! Sheesh.

Don't be afraid of words. It's silly.

Hon, I appreciate all your comments but....if you watch barely 2 hours of any TV....you'll find men bashed at least 70 to 1 as to women.

No question on your subject...but truly...find a better variable than women being bashed.
