Level -> Lawmaker's number on escort service's list (7/10/2007 3:14:49 AM)

WASHINGTON - Sen. David Vitter, R-La., apologized Monday night for “a very serious sin in my past” after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called “D.C. Madam.”

Vitter’s spokesman, Joel Digrado, confirmed the statement in an e-mail sent to The Associated Press.

“This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible,” Vitter said in the statement. “Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.”

Hmmm. Not good enough I feel.

How is it that when those at the top get caught with their trousers down, its due to stress, alcoholism etc and they find forgiveness......... whilst the guy who gets caught kerbcrawling gets no such opportunity to make excuses and leave?

Funny old world. I'm told that one day the meek will inherit it.

Yes, Lady E, it's amazing how getting one's hand caught in the nookie, errrrrrr, cookie jar, can make one more amicable to the idea of forgiveness. [8|]

At least he's admitting it and owning up to it, which is really the smart thing to do these days.  If he denied it, the press wouldn't stop until they had buried him alive.

And please....he's by far not the only public official on that list.  When are we as a country going to stop getting so outraged because some political figure wanted a little nookie?

Hell- they ALL are guilty!!!

Are you kidding me??

next they will claim they never masterbated- everrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Good morning [:D]

Of course, he isn't the only one of the list, the list is quite long, from what I've heard. What gets me outraged, isn't the desire for nookie, it's the deceit. Now, if his wife knew, and is okay with it, I don't have a lot of problems with that.

Nookie, okay.

Lying, cheating, deceiving, not.

LadyEllen -> RE: Lawmaker's number on escort service's list (7/10/2007 5:20:49 AM)

Windchymes - I totally agree (its the same here). We somehow expect our public officials and politicians etc to be devoid of the very inherent qualities that make one human, and then are surprised, outraged even, when its shown that they are all too human.

Again, I see the foreign cult at work - the one that denies our natures and calls them evil. The thing is though, many if not all of those caught at the top with their trousers down, go out of their ways to support that foreign cult and to continue the imposition of its values on society. And that is ridiculous, as well as making a mockery of the foreign cult that hangs them out to dry.

Two words come to mind; hoist and petard.

This Vitter bloke is amazing, he seems to have a direct line to God. I guess that is why people at the top are forgiven and those lesser people at the bottom have to do time.

    Exactly. Let them take the government out of our bedrooms and the attitude might change...

   I'm also waaaaaaay over the whole.."well, I'll just apologize, and then it won't matter what I did" attitude that seems to have pervaded hollywood, washington, etc. Just my two cents, as always

Mornin' sunshine [;)]

I agree about the lies, deceit, etc.  But once again....who in politics ISN'T being deceitful and lying and boasting about God's forgiveness when it suits them?  We just hear about them and gloat when they get caught.  It goes back around to the general population who expects it from our public officials.  Somewhere, we picked up the idea that those in office must be free of sin, married with children, churchgoers, etc.  As though anyone who dared to venture from that storybook life just wouldn't be competent to hold a public office.

The theory is good, yes, from back in the days of Our Founding Fathers and how George Washington never told a lie, and so on.  But it was easier to carry on that charade back then when you didn't have media lined up with shovels, picks, axes and millions of dollars in offers for the dirt that they can dig up.

Unfortunately, claiming forgiveness and confessing their infidelity-whatevers is the lesser of the evils, since the alternative is cruficixion by the press and the public alike.  Maybe if we'd make our decisions on their competency based on job performance alone instead of dragging their personal lives into it so deeply (yes, I know, their personal character does enter into it some).  But I don't see how the fact that, say, they paid a hooker for sex affects their ability to juggle dollars to balance a budget.  Should we let them do their jobs and quit worrying about their sex lives?

Nah. He's probably a catholic; he mentioned confession. That's how they view things.
There's forgiveness, or lack thereof, for the "sin" in question.
And then there's the law.

He's got a direct line with regard to the latter, which is how he gets off the hook.
The former, however, is a different matter.

"The dictators of values are short on credentials; their self-certifications are pompous and vacuous; the papacies of their self-canonization are suspect. Sometimes I think they suffer from brain damage; perhaps their halos are too heavy." John Norman

Just make it legal, then it truly is between a person and their spouse, or between that person and if they look to a higher power (god/philosophy/code/etc.).

Or we could take our own bedrooms away from the government.
Or, better yet, stick our bedrooms into the government.
A bit of discipline in Congress might be good.
And a MJK of BDSM in there, too.
