This just popped into my inbox on the office email. I checked it out on Google and it turns out the story was in the papers last year - first I heard of it, but then I dont read the papers.

Interesting stuff, and enough to drive one crazy. According to some of the newspaper references, this project is tied in with less than honourable Muslim groups....

You'd prefer maybe Peter Stringfellow got the money instead?

My english there was somewhat, as you say, inelegant.

Perhaps it *would* be a better use in the war against fundie nuts!

I'd prefer that I got the money.

To build a huge Asatru temple slap bang in the middle of England.

And from there, plan the overthrow of the Christian Church.

..........what tax breaks does the COE get? How many Bishops get seats in the House of Lords? How many Imans?
It is disingenuous to suggest that the COE does not get any help from government in the UK. Perhaps it is more truthful to suggest that the help it does get has been around for so long that they have ceased to appreciate or even notice it.
All Ken Livingstone is doing is levelling the playing field.

I agree Philosophy - the CoE gets far too big an influence over life here, but I dont see the way forward being to level the playing field in any direction but downwards for all. Remove the bishops from the Lords immediately, and lets stop pretending we are a Christian nation - with what? 5% attending church? And with I'd guess, at least 90% of the supposed Christian population unable to recount any part of the Bible let alone quote it.

If people want to practise religion, thats fine. But not on my taxes.

....i tend to agree LE, but in the absence of disestablishing the COE then it is only fair to subsidise other religions. The petition calls the decision 'undemocratic'......and then goes on to assert that the UK is 'a christian nation'. It also clearly implies that christian churches get no benefits, which we both know to be manifestly untrue. As it is such a flawed petition, i will not be signing it.

we have both a mosque and a temple here in Sunbury PA. to my knowledge they were never desecrated. we did have a rash of church breakins- thefts.

the leader of one of the 2 listed- is in trouble for commingly funds.

i wont say which one. as both groups=- need to try harder to get along in the larger world.

I havent signed it either Philosophy - for the same reason.

But going along with your point, I need to ask where my millions are for building the Asatru temple I spoke of? Latest estimates I heard were along the line of 50,000+ people in the UK who describe themselves as Asatruar, so surely we need that money too as our share of the pie? Especially since the Church stole most of what belonged to the religion in the first place.

Mind you, we then have to consider the Jedi temple too - seeing as how so many hundreds of thousands wrote "Jedi" as their religion on the census forms.

Hey all; www.burjdubai.com do the research, check out the other related arab sites, check the saudi sites. Just criise around the arabias. None of this should be any surprise to you. This Mosque...chicken feed.
