All, just saw this movie for the first time. Near the end, a blonde is put in some kind of "umbrella" like this with spears in it. Does anyone know if this is something real or was it just for the movie?  Just curious.

That thing was sick and wrong! LOL and it may be something of an archaic torture device. If i recall correctly Capt. Howdy was looking at a ton of old books so he may have fashioned something from an old dark ages torture thing.

If something like that existed in our time i would be scared to death of the person who owned it.

I'm guessing that you mean the apparatus that looks like this.

Yes, it's real.  It's called a kavadi and is used in Hindu rituals and festivals.

Wow thanks for posting that. It's interesting to know what it was, that's one of my all time favorite movies so it's cool to learn a new factoid about it

now that's just about as good as a permit to carry....

If everyone wore one of those, there wouldn't be shoving matches down at the local bar.

The skin is one of the biggest and toughest organs you own.

Depends on the number and depth of the hooks, but they'd stay in if deep enough and with the right centere of gravity, he'd bobble upside down with his feet waving in the air.

I'll skip the OSHA safety hooks to prevent this, comments and just link to

I don't believe they are hooks, more likely skewers, if My memory serves. Been a while since I saw the movie.

No wonder they leave their bodies on mystical experiences.

I'd leave my body too, if those hooks stuck were stuck through it

Strangeland really rocks, in a very twisted, "OMG! I'd really, REALLY like to do that someone!" kind of way...

The whole movie Turned me on and horrified me at the same time.  What about the other devices, such as the iron maiden?  I wonder if we can come up with a list of everything used in the whole movie?  Anybody care to contribute?

Ouch.  *hates needles*  Don't know that how safe that would be.  But hey, you'd get a lot of attention.  Reminds me of my friends that would stick needles through the top layers of their skin with the "Look what I can do" philosophy.

Hey, I resemble your remarks.  I don't mind needles being stuck in me, in fact I used get my weekly allergy shots growing up as child.  Needles don't bother me much.  Though I have had a few crappy Nurses that sucked at drawing blood...   I enjoy a little pain being the Masochist I am.   I'm not Hindu and I have no desires to experience a kavadi!  Pass on this one.

I would probally piss myself and drop dead from dehydration the very moment somebody tried spearing me into one of this Evil tings.
