ORIGINAL: MaamJay OK I have just done some reading. While I am mostly involved in education now, My background includes lecturing Human Biology at Uni level, so I am pretty good at wading through dense scientific reports! Reading about this medication, there are some important points, which I have tried to put in to more reader-friendly language: 1. It is dangerous to women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant because it is potentially dangerous to a developing male foetus. It is not dangerous to the woman herself. It would be dangerous to a male foetus because its action is to prevent the conversion of testosterone to a different form called DHT which is responsible for the development and enlargement of the prostate gland. So an affected male foetus would have an abnormally small or absent prostate. As it can be absorbed through the skin, women are urged not to handle the capsule which contains a full dose. This is because, being a soft gelatin capsule, there is a risk of leakage of the full concentration of medication. It's also not known if it would be excreted in human milk should a nursing mother come into contact with a dose. 2. It is extensively metabolised (ie broken down) by the liver. The end products are mostly excreted in the faeces and at least one of those end products is still active. Therefore scat play with a man on this medication is a definite no-no! Urine contains less than 1% of active medication, which is very small. I would still be wary about drinking quantities of it regularly, especially if there was any chance at all of falling pregnant, but a once-off sip isn't likely to do harm in a woman that isn't currently pregnant or capable at that time of falling pregnant. Similarly, although it can be absorbed through the skin, there would be very little risk in allowing urine to flow over the skin briefly and then following the advice given in the literature, which is to wash it off with soap and water. That's the advice for accidental contact with full-concentration from a leaking capsule, so the trace in the urine should respond well to the same treatment. 3. It will be present in the person's blood as that is how it gets around the body. Patients on this medication cannot give blood for 6 months after ceasing to take it as that allows more than enough time for it all to be broken down and excreted just in case this blood was given to a female who might be pregnant. There will also be more testosterone in the blood than usual because it hasn't been converted to DHT. Unless you're planning to be a vampire, this shouldn't be an issue! There is no advice given as to whether it is present in cum. Because it is taken to control over-enlargement of the prostate gland, it will have an effect on the volume of semen produced (decreased), and also reduces the total sperm count and their motility (swimming ability) by around 20-25%. However, that doesn't mean the medication itself or its end products can actually get into the cum. Perhaps contacting the manufacturer with that question would be a good idea ... might encourage them to do the tests and find out! My guess, given what I have read, is that it would be unlikely, given the low amount in the urine. Seems like most of it just goes straight through and out with the faeces! I hope this helps! I think this is a brilliant thread, reminds us all to be more educated about what we do! I doubt that many have thought about medications when considering drinking pee. Most information I have read concentrates on how urine is sterile in terms of bacteria (which it generally is unless someone has a bladder infection), but that doesn't automatically make it "safe". I have always said no to wholesale drinking (either receiving or giving) simply because it contains waste products which the body needs to excrete ie get rid of because they are toxic. Having someone else drink quantities of them seems rather stupid. Whereas a few drops, or allowing it to run over the skin, would minimise any risks significantly. Maam Jay aka violet[A] Excellent and interesting post overall, Maam Jay; your thought that we need to be more cognizant of what we could be exposed to is especially poignant. It's something I think about a lot since we're trying to have a munchkin, but another reminder never hurts. [:)]
