There are a lot of reasons not to give a pic with one's profile. My UMs wouldn't care about my pic being here but my employeer probably wouldn't be too happy if they knew about it.

I guess I could see that aspect.

So are we discussing this "ring around the rosie" or discussing why we should or should not have pictures posted??~wanders off, scratching head~.....Tempting

Cyber Collaring vs.  Real time Collaring...  Oh My Little Girl, somebody has been yanking your chain again and you keep letting it happen to you.

Now Now, come to Daddy, let him bitch slap you back to reality with a greasy glob of vaseline, <smack>....there we go...right in the face.  See, it's all better now.  Let Daddy wipe the tears from your eyes.  You have to stay away from talking to strangers on the internet and air ports now, else the men in white coats are going to take you away to a Bad Bad Bad place you don't want to go.

Anybody falling for this needs to spend some good quality time facing the corner, instead of being on the the computer so much.  LOL...

I know this is sad but true, there are people falling for this type of crap, because they are not in touch with reality.

I know I for one am getting into a job that I cant be known to be assosiated with BDSM many people have jobs like that, really ever think that people who dont have photos here arent fake but are instead coushouse(sp??)

Well I'm glad the original qn was rhetorical! That was just too crazily fast!

Re pictures, I would love to put My pic up but with My employment arena of education, that could be professional suicide. This seems like a nice safe enclosed site BUT it is free to join AND if you google the nick, it will come up with the entries made to these forums! That was a SHOCK to Me when I discovered that recently. I already think I may have given out too much personal info and just have to hope that it doesn't fall into enemy hands! I will share a pic once I start talking to someone and there is a need to do so eg to recognise Me if arranging a face-to-face meeting.

First, I thought frazzle's post was hilarious. It made a point and did so in a humorous way. And then I had to laugh at everyone taking what was said so seriously. I mean honestly! How could one NOT see the humor in what was written? And THEN I came to this post and it beat all!!

So, you can really know someone by their profile? I wonder what you'd think of mine. Am I fake? Am I "not real?"  This is simply hilarious. On another site, the first line of my profile is "How do you reduce a person to a few simple lines?" and frankly, I really don't see how that's possible.

Yes, some people's posts do reek of them not knowing what they're talking about. However, many others don't, but that's no indication really that they do or don't know what they're talking about. Hell, my Master's profile on here says absolutely nothing - and he's been doing this for about 30 years or so.

As far as why some people don't put pictures on their profiles, I'll give you a little clue. It's because they don't want to. There are lots of reasons for this, but ultimately, they simply don't want to. How hard is that to figure out?

It might be helpful to remember that a profile is written and set up to express what the person writing it wanted to express - not what the reader wants to see, and because of that real people may look like fakers, fakers may look like real people and both may or may not have pictures on their profiles.

By the way, a faker to you might just be real to another person - even if you don't get it.

i have had a few so-called Doms/Masters offering me that they would take me on thier big boat, take me to nice dinners and ask would i like to go to a so and so special place like Hawaii and so forth.  When that happens my gut instinct is to stay away from them.  i tell them that i am not interested in their gifts, they don't mean a thing to me.  Finding a true Master is what is very important to me. They never write back. lol!            *sweet caleigh*

It's only a double standard if they're on equal ground with you. If they're your boss and have the hiring/firing power over you, double standard or not, they can do what they wish.

And from a surfing employer's point of view: "I may be surfing but I am not so dumb as to put my picture up on a questionable site. I have a business to run and I'm not going to lose business if word of you and your picture on that site get around town. So, go find another job."

I admit it seems simpler to just tell the person to take his/her picture off the site, but that opens a whole kettle of worms regarding the employer telling the employee what to do on their personal time.

And in the end, if, like me, you have a moral turpitude clause to your contract, while you might be able to fight being fired because of a picture, it's going to take time and money and all that to legally define moral turpitude and determine whether I've violated that clause or not. So, it's just simpler to not post a picture. Believe me, providing a roof over our heads and food on our tables is a damn site more important than some perceived right to post a picture on a bdsm personal's site.

Are you kidding? First of all I'm sure there are many people who like to keep their personal life and professional life seperate, for a variety of reasons. Also isn't it better to wait until someone is remotely interested from talking to you, rather than having people becoming remotely interested because they saw your pic? Sure looks are nice, but even the best oil painting is still just a rag hanging on the wall.

Ahhh where to start with this post.  Original post or picture issue.  Guess I will go in the order they came.  I thought it was hilarious also.  But it is easy for some who have been searching for a very long time to be guillible to someone who is promising to be all they have been looking for so it is as uncommon as many think.  Some seek out those they think are at the despartion point and pounce like vultures circling a dying animal.  You will always have the vultures and those who are victims.

RE: Pictures
I have to agree with everyone on it being a matter of privacy though pictures may be innocent I am sure that there are employers that would frown upon their employees being on a BDSM site.  It is becoming more and more common for potential employers to google an employees name.

Get to know someone in real life and longer then a week before going off to different countries. I think you might have a few things to learn first.

I second this. I've crossed Europe 3 times for a relationship and twice it didn't work out. This time I'm crossing the Atlantic but be sure that before anyone relocates there's going to be visits on both sides of the Atlantic.

A promise is a comfort to a fool.

Collarme Profiles and Collarchat Profiles do not always match.  I had that problem when I was darkangel - I was darkangel here, but the profile belonged to someone else on the other side, which is why in the end the Mods were kind enough to alter me to darkinshadows eventually(before I was with Darcy).
So do not always assume that the person posting here on the forum is exactly the same person on the profile at CM.

Privacy

Some of us are Executives, some of us are Dr's and Lawyers, some of us have a reputation to protect where if our Alternative Lifestyle was found out we would loose our jobs, and/or businesses.  Other's just want to protect themselves for whatever reason dont bash them for that.  It's a personal preference whether or not we want to post our pictures.

As far as the OP goes, I get what your talking about and have to wonder if the Dominant in question was doing this with reasoning.

Maybe the sub/slave in question was misbehaiving a little to much, and grovelled her way back into His mind and/or heart.

I've upset mine enough a few times where He has infact threatened release but has never actually done it.  I dont enjoy it, infact I dont agree with it because it toys with a subs head just a bit to much but if the sub or slave in question seems to benefit from it (which i did) then maybe it's the most severe punnishment the sub could get at that point in time.

I know it probably doesn't make any sense but having gone through it I can say that it's not an easy road, or feeling, and it's like once the tears start to fade even though your not there with them and He's not there with you, He always seems to know when that point comes, and He'll call, and whatever is going to happen, happens.

I put a pic on my profile to help show that I am genuine, and it's linked to my Master/husband's profile for the same reason. A pic doesn't have to show a lot of detail. Some of the most effective are silhouettes or people shrouded in hoods or blindfolds. At least they indicate that those who post them have some small comprehension of what BDSM is about. They don't have to reveal identity, just inclination...

Pictures aren't necessarily proof of seriousness in regards to bdsm, though. Sometimes someone is still a little sh*t even if they have a picture up [some people post pictures because then they know people think that their profile is 'realer' than non-photo profiles]. For me, since I'm not interested in dating anyone but my girl, I don't have a picture on my profile. Sometimes, this means when I message someone to just say 'oh, hey, your profile looked cool, not interested in dating, just wanted to say so', they don't necessarily believe I'm not a pervy male masquerading as a young woman, but you know what? If I had a picture, people would be messaging me because they saw the picture [not that I'm that hot, but having a picture increases the number of messages you would get because then people can choose whether or not they find you physically attractive]. And employers do google searches and other things now a days-- you can hire people to do that sort of search. For some people, they have no problem having a picture up, but for others the risk [and sometimes annoyance :) ] is too great to bother with a picture.
