ProfJoe -> puppy love, and so on (6/10/2007 12:26:40 PM)

Just yesterday I witnessed, at a public conference, a delightful puppy bitch, deep in her space for the entire day. At registration, she "sat" on the floor at the side, a beautiful woman in any setting dressed in full puppy regailia. She paid no more attention to me than any well-trained dog would have. Later she "sat" beside her Master in a general conference area, again on the floor and on her haunches, and remained completely in space. Occasionally she would bark or sniff at something, apparently without regard for any attention she would or would not receive ... just like a dog. I'm mystified. My admiration for her has encouraged me to ask --

it's a simple question, and I asked it of experienced folk at the conference, but I'm not at all convinced that their answer is complete, and reading some of the threads that came up when I searched this site didn't get me very far either. Can you provide more info for me from the puppy's perspective?

What's she get out of it?

I asked about objectification and humiliation and was promptly told I was wrong. Being a puppy, I was told, is a form of objectification certainly, but humiliation isn't part of it, they insisted! It is, one person told me, because "she" is extremely well kept and loved and cared for.
\
Is that all there is to it? Hard to believe. I mean, one could get those satisfactions in a variety of play forms and relationships. What is special about being a puppy?

And, while you're at it, is the satisfaction of "pony" play the same? Or different in what way?

Thanks in advance! Prof Joe

i for one don't get this kind of thing at all, so i will be interested to learn what is said about it.

As a side note, OP  I suggest reading "Dangerous Sex" by William Black.  It may help you wrap your mind around some of the things that are more obscure to you.  He writes of real experinces of some pretty extreme things.

LittleWolvenOne -> RE: puppy love, and so on (6/10/2007 12:48:56 PM)

From Puppy Play by Miss Marie

Puppy play: A role based form of play between a human and puppy/dog can
be trained, disciplined or simply be a beloved pet.

A few common motivations:

Pets: receiving affection
Puppies: play or having fun
Dogs: being obedient

Or a combination of all of the above.

Puppy Mindset:

Unconditional Love Sincerity and Presence Physical and instinctive
Curiosity Playfulness and Affection Loyalty and Obedience Protectiveness

Thank you for the ref. to "Dangeous Sex." I've meant to get to it.

Curious about "Miss Marie's" list of motives: They don't sound all that different from the motives for other forms of submission. Any suggestion as to why it appeals so strongly? Clearly, it is both different and takes a major effort on the part of both top and bottom. There must be something unique to it ... or so I'm assuming.

Thanks for the replies.

Respectfully, Prof. Joe

Of course humiliation CAN be a part of it.

However, there's no way to say except for the person themselves whether it *IS* a part of it for that person at that time.  Frankly if their handler was saying it's not a part of it, then it's pretty much solid that it's not a part of it.

You honestly can't see the deliciousness in being a spoiled pet?  You don't have to worry about anything, you're on a strict command/obey protocol, no expectations to talk to others, to socialize, to primp yourself, and your biggest worry is whether it's wet/cold outside when you have to go to the bathroom.

I've always said if I get reincarnated, I want to come back as my own cat because that's a pretty darn sweet life.

Now ponies are used more for work and have a bigger element of service involved, and I also find they are more pushy/needy/horny than most of the puppies I know.  But training can keep all of that in line just fine.

Thank you, LA. It wasn't the handler at all as I didn't have a chance to talk with him. So that makes it even less certain ...

Sure, I see the deliciousness, the way you describe it.

Then, let me ask about boredom .... No? Stamina for the (apparent) effort to stay in space? I thought it was very special that she was able to sustain it without apparent breaks (to me) for well over 8 hours. and very little (apparent) feedback.

We were in a large urban hotel ... so I'm wondering about the bathroom scenario you mention. Probably they take a break. Fascinating. Now I wish I'd grilled the handler/owner.

Thanks, Prof. Joe

I dunno, do dogs appear bored after that time?

I don't know her training or what's going on, so it might have been tough for her to be there for that long, or it might have been draining.

At a big weekend convention type thing, people usually plan big scenes they can't do in a few hours or at home, and the exhibitionist aspect goes up exponentially, so it's a big deal for them, something they work up to, get excited about and throw themselves into.  If she'd been anticipating this for a few weeks, to FINALLY be the puppy girl- she might have just been in zoned bliss the whole time.

Or she's paper trained.

EvilGeoff -> RE: puppy love, and so on (6/10/2007 4:43:41 PM)

Why do you like steak more than lamb?
What's so fun about playing baseball?  You get to do more playing soccer...

Why do you like kinky sex?  Can't you get what you need in a loving relationship with your wife, having normal sex?  What's the appeal of all that pervert stuff you do?

Catch the drift here?  It's incredibly difficult to explain a core part of who and what you are to someone who really doesn't get it.  Whatever "it" maybe.  Some things just are.  It's hard to get good information from pups because when they are in "dog space" they aren't speaking, thinking in words... from what I have been told, they are in a here and now animal head space most of us would not understand even if they could adequately explain it.  It's very primal.

It's their kink, not my kink.  But it's fun to watch.  Some things we just scratch our heads about, accept... and move along.  And ask the handler if you can give them a biscuit.  *grin*

YIK,
- Geoff

Great ... I hadn't factored this part in. That lets me get a "reasonable" grip on it. Thanks.

I wish I'd have thought of that, EG. Yes, I understand it's not explainable to a large extent, nor is any of WIITWD ... but I'm getting a little better handle on it even so. Thanks for your help in that.

I don't know about that.  I think it is very possible for articulate people to at get across at least a sense, the gist, of what they get out of a particular kink.  It is by no means, for some of us, about accepting and moving on.  Self-revelation is not necessarily self-defense, and a desire to understand is not always a move to judge.

I'm thinking in particular of a former submissive who was interested in puppy play. I had never had any experience with it, and in my desire to know her (I paraphrase love as to know and be known) I asked her about it.  She told me that for her it was a playful space, where she could let go of her ratiocinative impulses (this was a grad student in the humanities) and be in submission without having to think about her submission.  For her it was the other side to humiliation space, the playful and not as cathartically intense side to objectification.

It was helpful to hear that, and I'm glad she was able to put what she could in words.

Elorin -> RE: puppy love, and so on (6/10/2007 6:36:11 PM)

I'm not a puppy, I'm a kitty cat. But what do I get out of it? Playfulness. No thinking. I do what cats do. I exhibit interest when I'M interested in things, I sniff and turn my nose up at things I don't like, I lick myself in public, I play whenever I want to, I pounce on things that move.

I don't have to worry about appropriateness, maturity, or being good (unless I interrupt a seminar, which I would not do, I would take a nap instead). I get lots of lap and cuddle time. I get to lick and bite Daddy's hand, hiss at strangers who offend me.

The biggest draw for me is attention, petting, and disengaging my intellectual brain for a while.

i went to a TES weekend event and was able to speak to a pony boy and ask him questions, after his demo. He explained to me that he enjoyed it for the exact reasons you stated - it was like a form of relaxation for him - he got to take a break and "just be a pony" and do what ponies do, no thinking, no interaction or expectation from others, only doing what a pony would do.  i found that aspect quite intriguing and can understand the interest and allure that would provide.

MasterFireMaam -> RE: puppy love, and so on (6/10/2007 8:10:21 PM)

Most people that I've talked to about puppy play (or any animal play) revel in being able to touch the basic animal nature in themselves. This doesn't always mean animalistic. They are fulfilled by "becoming" their animal...and acting in such a manner that interacts with their owner. A lot are interested in being the model pup, so to speak, because they know this pleases their owner.

1wildwolf -> RE: puppy love, and so on (6/11/2007 3:22:09 AM)

I tend to agree with EvilGeoff....whilst i doubt i would want to be in role at a convention, especially not for that length of time, i do enjoy "being" a puppy at times.

However i have not yet been able to explain why that is so, or what reasons i enjoy it for (though yes the attention can be wonderful).

Therefore i just accept it as being part of me and leave it at that

very interesting topic.....I hope more people contribute and tell more aspects/ opinions to it.

Areflectionofyou -> RE: puppy love, and so on (6/11/2007 1:43:13 PM)

I am both into pony and puppy play and love both...i get to be dressed and groomed and act the way a pony does ....its a wonderful feeling. My Master isn't into pony play, and i am..im again in the process of finding a new trainer in my new state i live in. I played with Buck from waterhole in Ct  and was lucky enough to do some demos with him as well.
