You do have, and I mean this as a compliment, a certain similarity of style.

OK so my partner is going away for 44 hours to see his dad in Houston.  He does this on a nearly monthly basis, and this month I'm not going with him.

Why is it that everything I'd want to do seems totally pointless and boring without him?

I know I'll probably go out and do stuff and have a good weekend (cleaning the bathroom, woohoo!), but I'm just so pathetic without him.

LA,
i keep wrestling with this but my answer is dependant on which side you are coming from since you are a switch.  Is this from a sub or a Domme?

It means you love someone and don't want to be without them because of that love and that bond.  It's the same with me and Mistress.  I can't even stand the time we spend apart while She's at work.

Yes,

It's coming from just me being pathetic with not having my partner with me to watch DVDs with or go get ice cream with or laugh at the Soup with or make new popcorn flavors with.

This is why I say the basis of our relationship is vanilla- just love and compatibility.  The Ds is the icing.

i know how i feel lonely.  If i am given some tasks or other things to do while the person is gone, it seems to shorten the time and make me think of them and am making them happy.  you love and care about the other person.  That is fantastic then do something with that energy rather than feel sorry for yourself please.  You are lucky to have someone you love.

After reading all of the posts on this thread....I once again agree with the sound wisdom of LA.....And unfortunately she is correct....You are all pathetic.

Renovating?

That might actually be fun. No, just normal scrubbing and cleaning as I do every few weeks.

You mentioned that in the OP, but I'd forgotten. Scrubbing and cleaning are hard to make fun.

someone tries to make a constructive comment and you blow it off  You are the person who posts thread after thread on a subject.

Fine you need to find your own self worth without the other person  If you are a sub then the Master should have given you tasks to be done  If You are the Domme then why so needy?  Examine your needs and why when someone leaves you don't feel you have anything.  That is troubling.

I know this might sound silly, but have you ever thought about getting a puppy? My dogs do wonders to keep the walls from closing in during the alone times.

Sorry Minnetar, I was being facetious in my response, in fact this whole thread is somewhat facetious, which is why I put it in off-topic.

Trust me, I actually have a lot to do this weekend other than a bathroom cleaning, including choosing between two fun parties tomorrow night and at least one movie screening and craft project.

And I'm hardly the type to sit around and swoon- however, this is the first relationship I've ever felt this sort of real pathetic longing for someone who's really only going away for less than two days and will be in regular phone contact, and yet I'm still so needy for him, the world seems dull and washed out if we're not together.

Which really is pathetic in a sweet sad pathetic sort of way.  So, thought I'd share and be the brave one to admit I'm ok with being pathetic.

But I must say, I really think if I didn't have my partner...nothing else would matter, at least not very much for a very long time.  Healthy or not, that's really how my life is right now.

Good thing we live together :)

Well it's nice to know I'm not completely alone in my patheticness.

I'm sure all the ones in extreme long distance relationships just want to smack me now (wink @ Kyra)

But you know, I'm thinking maybe I'll hang out in some chat rooms tonight, that will likely take me to a whole new level of pathetic really.

i get to see Sir once a week at best.  *smiles*  so no, you arent pathetic, its sweet!

i'm talking to Sir online right now, i'll probably beg for a goodnight call tomorrow, when my husband is at his otherlove's house, and even though we spent several hours together today.....i still miss him.

kitten, who knows darn well she loves her Sir

I've got the internet, what do I need a puppy for?

:)

No, actually it's something we've talked a lot about and will likely one day get.  I want a cat but he's yearned to have another doxie so we'll see where we end up.  But right now it would cost way too much in our apartment, and we really don't want the responsibility.

You are not alone in your patheticness. And I am not even long distance. There is nothing but school keeping Angel away from me, and yet I cant go shopping without the idea of what he would look like in something crossing my mind. Its several steps beyond the plain missing someone.  Its even worse when you dont now how long their absance will be, how frequent it will be, or if even when that glimmer at the end of the lonely tunnel might wink out becsue a professor assigned extra homework.
Not that im bitter...

Well they are way more fun than cleaning the bathroom!

Yes, they are a ton of responsibility and cost. I spent a good number of years in an apartment where I couldn't have pets...I honestly don't know how I got through it though. Now that the kids are grown my dogs are my babies....and OMG....spoiled!
