Just curious on people's thought's on chat in general online, i go into rooms to chat with people in the rooms that have same or similar intrests in either BDSM or D/s and i like to just chat in general or get into discusions or even debates it gives you food for thought and i might either agree or disagree about what has been said.  I have made it plain that, that is all i am there for, and quite happy to chat to anyone in a chat room and its a bonus if you become buddies with someone, but why do i get asked, are you owned or have you got a Master or what ever, i say no and i am not looking but happy to chat, they just go away and say no more, i know people go into chat for many reasons but isent one of them chat?
 
Maybe i am to logical in thinking that chat rooms are for chat.
 
But sometimes i feel like - as the saying goes - fresh meat in a prison.

Gah, "dominants" letting a submissive side show in making their advances subject to another's will!  Always strikes me as funny when a "Dom" is practically begging a submissive for the privledge of having her.

Still, it happens.  I'm rather certain a fair portion of males make such advances regularly and without regard for curtiousy.  I mean, if Britney Spears published her personal cell phone number in a teen magnize, half of the horny 14-year old boys in America would have the cell phone towers in the area clogged enough to take down 911 service.  Even if all of them would hang up and forget about it with an appropriate apology after she picks up and repeats her then-well-rehearsed "I'm not interested" speech, they'd still come together to be a collective pain in the butt for her.  I think a lot of people fail to understand even "mature" advances can be damaging when unwelcome due to volume.  And many are less than perfectly mature.

Being female and less than 400 lbs isn't going to help you get away from it, either.  Actually, you're pretty hot.  Wanna go chat privately?

Because the high majority of people that go to chat do so for a quickie cheep thrill.

I only ever pop into chat if I am extremely bored and I only ever do so to chat about ttwd and not to be chatted up. Like you I normally get ignored once I make it plain that I am not looking and the fact that my name sounds masculine means I get totally ignored by the men!!
What I find in the chat rooms is that some of the  moderators know it all and if you dare to question their opinion ‘ping’ they boot you.
. If they are not intelligent enough to get off their pedestals and  have a decent conversation then I really cant be bothered with all that bollocks.

Unfortunately the trolls like chat rooms too. Some are just there for a quick fix. There are legitimate people in there somewhere.

lol yeah somewhere, thank god, i am no angel, but if i go into a chat room i like to chat, its what i went in there to do.

Most people (not all) are in the chatrooms for the online fantasy. Theres lots of Masters looking for online subs who can give them some wanking material. Though some I am sure are there really looking for a sub, I am sure that their numbers are quite low. When you tell these guys that your there just for the chat and they go away, feel lucky[;)] Other wise their next question would probably be, How big are your tits?[:'(]

I 'chat' on forums and in mail... I looked at a few chatrooms and they certainly are not My 'thang', looks more suited for those who want to play at 'online fantasy' rather than discuss the dynamics of how this works in the real world. Mind you I'm not a big fan of IM's anyhow which probably doesn't improve My impression of the chatrooms.

I usually prefer ethier chatrooms that are run by people I know personally, and have mostly rt friends in there, or I only go to the women's chatroom.  I chat mostly on IRC Bondage.  And I am rarely bothered. *grins*

ennozzie, I don't do the whole chat room thing. I popped into a couple of them a few years ago and found that they smacked of fantasy fodder and misinformation. Call me crazy but I just couldn't "get" the concept of all those who were "kneeling at your feet", "giving 20 whacks with a boat oar", "kneeling in the corner on rice" and "waving tushie invitingly". Guess my imagination just isn't that good.

I gave up on chatrooms for those reasons mostly (and because anytime I'd actually start to chat,t he whole room would get pissed and say I was just trying to get attention and couldn't possibly be DOING the sorts of things I said I was).  I go back occasionally to remind myself why I left.

I have spent very little time in bdsm themed chatrooms. I do not care for protocol with strangers I have never met with caps in their nicks... it just gives me the creeps to be honest

To the OP ... I have chatted in a room and enjoyed it as I like to chat as well, though I have found that most rooms are full of  people just looking to "cyber". I just don't reply to private messages and stay in the room which is rarely actually discussing anything bdsm related.

btw Julia~ I do not cap either and i just explain to people when they ask that I do not believe me capping pronouns in anyway makes them more Dominant and it is not meant as disrespectful. I also shy away from rooms that type in netspeak.

I can empathize a lot with this.

Hell, I get this on the board when I bring up my own relationships.  Can be pretty damn annoying.
