unfortunately most chatrooms do tend to be either places for online "friends" to socialize or where fantasy cyber-only folks get to come and roleplay til their heart's content. i'm one of the weird ones like the OP...if i go into a chatroom, i actually want to chat about the lifestyle. there are chatrooms which accomplish this, but they are not so easy to find.

Most men online are looking for someone who is willing to meet offline.  Very little meaningful bdsm chat takes place in chatrooms, most of the chat  it is the perfunctionary hi, bye, how ya doing kinda stuff.   You come off as a big "stop sign" Telling a dominant man that you are unowned , do not have a master, not looking, and happy,  is like telling a heterosexual vanilla guy you are lesbian, not interested in guys, can't stand cock, and are  happy. Most men would prefer to invest their chat in someone who is open to moving beyond just conversation. Chat with you has boundaries.

From my experince trolls LOVE chatrooms, I go into them on occassion and after the 'a/s/l' {duhhhhhhhh} I get the 'are you looking for a master' or 'are you a real slave' or my FAVORITE line 'do you have a webcam?' My answers 'if he came along,' 'what do you think?' 'yes, i do.' My webcam is for close friends, I have had it on for various reasons, so I could interview, because I coloured my hair, I was bored, my son was on my lap and someone wanted to see him, whatever the reason, trolls think it means that you will 'play' with them. Most people who see me in chat rooms look at my profile on yahoo, and with my sn being what it is, they think that means I will obey them without question {rofl} if you have read a decent number or even a few of my posts you KNOW how I can 'be' at times. Yep, trolls do NOT like me. I have maxed out how many peopel I can block on 5 sns on yahoo, lol.

If I do get along with someone in a chat room, I IM them privately and continue out of the room, its just polite.

They look at your profile and see that you are owned. I met my very first slave in the alt.com chat room. That was more years ago than I care to remember. However, I do NOT chat in rooms anymore at all. I agree in this way with the OP, chat rooms are either offensive or defensive depending on why you are there. Yes, many just want to chat and find many just do that and for fantasy or to set up private camming. Women involved or married find hooking-up in chat and then camming is a great release.

I only ever pop into chat if I am extremely bored and I only ever do so to chat about ttwd and not to be chatted up. Like you I normally get ignored once I make it plain that I am not looking and the fact that my name sounds masculine means I get totally ignored by the men!!
What I find in the chat rooms is that some of the  moderators know it all and if you dare to question their opinion ‘ping’ they boot you.
. If they are not intelligent enough to get off their pedestals and  have a decent conversation then I really cant be bothered with all that bollocks.

I ventured into a (cough) yahoo BDSM chat room one night being totally bored and unable to sleep. To see what the hype was all about. Well there's nothing to report back. Everyone that did speak was speaking to A/all (shoot them types) welcoming each other or say good night to A/all... other than that, I'm guessin they were in yahoo IMs. Because there was NO discussion of any type in the lobby.

I went back a few days later thinking it was the time of night I was in there. Wrong.. same shit.. different day... After 3rd visit to verify.. I laughed.. left..and never went back.

Got to admit though, my messenger had never been as busy before as it was during those 3 vistits. I didn't waste time responding. Just hit ignore and closed windows.

I have been in chat's off and on for close to 10 years.  I have met some wonderful people there - even met a few neighbors.
I have found that there are as many fools there (in numbers) as what I find in real life.
Since I'm semi-home bound - I have found these people to be life savers for adult conversations.

Chat isn't for everyone - but it is a value to others.
