Well I have a few ideas. One is that if the American public really realized that we are not wanted there (something like 89% of the Iraqi population thinks that we are there and only ever were there to secure their oil... well of the population that has left... the most of the educated middle class has fled the country... the emmigration problem is one we do nto even worry our pretty heads about here, while the rest of the world has it's "danger Will Robinson" lights flashing on red alert) and that the people of the country we are attempting to 'help' would feel safer if we left, the American public my completely get off their fat asses and demand out troops get out of there... The biggest problem that brings if one can divorce themselves from any kind of emotional toll (which I can not but our Govt. on both sides of the aisle, though more egregiously those who really are hawking for this war than those who are more passive) is that that could very likely cause us to get out of Iraq before we have secured legislation by their own government to allow the United States to own the rights to the oil in that country(there is much more to owning the oil, btw than just the oil... there is the rights to refining, distribution and pricing.. all of which our country is currently trying to get the Iraqi parliament to sign over to us). There is also the loss of money to all the big contractors over there who are bilking both our government and the nation of Iraq to the tune of untold billions of dollars each year. Those corporations have a blinding amount of political power, and are often in bed with (if not the makers of parts that built the bed) of the 5 media conglomerates who control over 95% of the TV, Radio and print media in this country. I also think that the people who are shitting their pants every time more and more people wake up in this country and are actually willing to be accountable for what they let happen by at best 'sleeping at the wheel' and at worst being willing to capitalize on an unjust and illegal invasion of a country on the rush of yahoo 'my country is the baddest in the world and we are gonna kick some rag-head ass, you are all the same and need to be made to be more like us' or just simple paranoia, are using every tool they own to keep the shit storm at bay.... (See above for one of their greatest tools... the 5 companies that own 95% of this nation’s media... that’s a pretty effective tool on a people who in general, do not want their bubble of happy consumerism to be burst). There are a few other ideas but... right now these are the two that pop most immediately to mind... hey if a piece of information does not get into the news, and into our personal conversations.. It doesn't exist right, it never really happened? Isn't that what Sanity was intimating at?

You have very compelling ideas. And the control of the major media outlets in the hands of so few is a very troubling situation. NPR is a great resource as are the other independent media sources that remain. So much of the time I observe the mind-numbing and dumbing down of American culture and compare it to the "bread and circuses" policies to control the poor and prevent slave revolts in the Roman Empire. Well.. some electronic gadgetry is good... especially deceptively small gadgets which buzz and whir... ooh but thats another thread... Actually, the internet is still one of the greatest tools to get real journalizm and news coverage, and has kept, to some degree, some of the media in check at times.. or at least made them present more later on than they were willing to initially

Looks like you are up early (checking the time)...I have insomnia as is normal. But that is not so bad as all the partying has died down after the weekend outside and tonight we don't have the fire dept, local police and an ambulance out on the steet. Playing obtuse will not change the fact that what I originally posted on this thread is all true, and that though you may not have 'liked' my first source, the second I listed is about as 'legit' a news source as you are going to find... right down to a right wing shill news caster.

Well...that was an outstanding post by bigskycountry. Very deep and insightful. I personaly watched the towers fall on live TV as I ate a sandwich and fell in horror is I learned that the presentation was not in fact a bad TV show. I wept on and off for weeks..it really hurt me. But now I get really pissed off when I think about the cowardly bitches that would try and take the country my ancestors and I would embrace so close to my heart. Kill them all, and let God sort them out. But do it fast, and dont fuck around.
