FelinePersuasion -> Is there any meaning to the song my baby shot me down, By Nancy Sinatra or is it just a great song? (5/6/2007 7:23:52 PM)

I was five and he was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down.

Seasons came and changed the time
When I grew up, I called him mine
He would always laugh and say
"Remember when we used to play?"

Bang bang, I shot you down
Bang bang, you hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, I used to shoot you down.

Music played, and people sang
Just for me, the church bells rang.

Now he's gone, I don't know why
And till this day, sometimes I cry
He didn't even say goodbye
He didn't take the time to lie.

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down...

Probably not any real significance, IMO.  By the way, the recording artist was Cher.   I am not aware that Nancy ever did this, although it is possible.  But Cher made the song famous.

Hmmm....for me it's an "ok" song.  It was written by Sonny Bono so if there was any additional meaning it was probably something between him and Cher.  Cher was the first to perform it and her's is the only version I've heard, but understand that Nancy Sinatra's version was used in the movie "Kill Bill".

The song is titled "Bang Bang", has been sung I believe by Cher, but is most known by Nancy Sinatra.

As far as the meaning...uh, did you read the lyrics? It's referring to her baby leaving her. Heartbreak.

Yeah Nancy Sinatra did it for kill bill, Ironically  a movie I have no desire to watch, but the movie was playing in the livingroom on the TV and I heard the song and was captivated.

Igor, why was it just an "ok song" for you?

Me  I loved it cause her smooth voice and the back ground!

Ah, that answers that question!  I haven't seen Kill Bill, probably never will!  *Smile*  I had no idea that Nancy had brought the song out of retirement for the movie.

the fact that there are people who have not seen kill bill fills me with contempt for the human race.

Why is it only an "okay" song for me?  I've never been a really big Cher fan (and as i mentioned, hers is the only version i've heard), and the words didn't carry any special meaning for me.  Cher HAS done a few songs that i really liked...this just wasn't one of them.  Just a personal taste thing i guess.

I feel the same way about those who have not seen The Big Lebowski.
