Good show tonight.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lou Dobbs, Activist Journalist?
CBS) For over 20 years, as the host of "Moneyline" on CNN, Lou Dobbs all but created television business reporting. He was seen as a booster of capitalism, and of the corporate executives he covered.
But today, that mild-mannered friend of CEOs has morphed into an anti-business champion of the middle class – and a "Johnny One Note" on the evils of illegal immigration.
The more he rails, the more his audience grows; his ratings have nearly doubled in the last two years.
As correspondent Lesley Stahl reports, his supporters want him to run for president, his critics want CNN to fire him, and some in Congress just want him to be quiet.
"Who The Fuck Is Jackson Pollack?"
CBS) Teri Horton is a 74-year-old retired truck driver with an eighth grade education. She likes to gamble a bit, and now she thinks she has hit the jackpot. Not in a casino, but in the high-stakes world of modern art.
Teri isn’t the kind of person who knows—or cares—much about art. But as CNN's Anderson Cooper reports, she has caused a stir in the upper reaches of the art world because of a painting she bought years ago, a painting she now believes is the work of the famous abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock.
If Teri's painting is by Pollock, it would likely be worth tens of millions of dollars. Not bad, considering she bought it as a gift for a friend and only paid $5 for it in a thrift shop in San Bernardino, Calif.
So sad but looks like he just realized what works as far as getting people's attention.  All that railing is drawing in the viewers so i guess he felt like he had to give them what they want.  Angry people like to see one of their own on the tube (or hear them on the radio) rallying all the other angry people against some common "evil."  Demogogues always have been and sadly always will be, it seems............luci
popeye1250 -> RE: tonight's 60 Minutes (5/6/2007 7:53:44 PM)
There's a lot of people in the country who like Lou Dobbs.
I do because he tells it straight without all the "PC" B.S.
And, even if you don't like him he's right when he exposes different govt. agencies for not doing their jobs including not enforcing our immigration laws.
And I wouldn't call him a "demigog."
I bear no ill will towards illegal aliens personally, I just want them to return to their own countries.
My real rancor is reserved for Bush and the govt. that is not doing *it's job* as regards our immigration laws.
The situation is so out of control that we need to end all immigration for 5 to 10 years in my opinion.
If we didn't have such a big problem with illegal immigration then do you think Lou Dobbs would be reporting on it?
"Don't kill the Messenger!"
Hey Popeye,
i personally don't have any ill-well toward Lou Dobbs and the idea of "killing the messenger" is one i don't like.  It's just always distasteful to me when someone gets so fixated on one issue or point that it becomes the scapegoat, so to speak, for everything.  There are people who think illegal immigrants are the only problem we have or that it's the main one.  i just personally disagree.  Having tunnel vision - focusing on one issue to the exclusion of all others - just never struck me as too scholarly.  It's kind of like when "morals" begin being discussed during a presidential election and some folks think as long as you have the "right" opinion on abortion and gay marriage, you're "moral" and if you have any other stance, you're wrong.  Never mind the million other issues involved.  That's all i mean, i guess.  (What?  None of your usual hilarious observations in this post?[:)])......luci
i love that dobbs makes congress sweat. if congress was too bur of a threat to the status quo there would be no sponsers.
i wouldnt say he is fixated=  the theme of the show is tho- the middle classs gets the shaft.
washinton has never been so currupt.
the man is close to retiredment he can speak his mind unlike some others- that must keep thier jobs.
for mainstream media he is the only one i watched. except that i cancelled my cable and now atch no one.
PaHunk, agreed.
Slaveluci, illegal immigration isn't the "only" issue Lou Dobbs speaks about.
Like PHunk said he has a recurring series about the vanishing "Middle Class" in this country. He goes after judges, politicians, Big Corporations, and others.
Of course Big Corporations love illegal aliens. They don't have to hire Americans at the going rate.
Have you ever seen his show?
If Lou Dobbs did run for President I'd vote for him.
that is the larger issue- the eroding middle class. he is the best hope we have at the moment. you would have to see his show for say a month to see what popeye and i are saying.
let me pose this theory. might it be the presses duty to question the status quo?
lately the press simply enforces the gridlock that makes big money possible.
even locally- the newspaper has a certain bias. we have a few very wealthy people in teh valley here. the press insnt going to portray them badly- as it needs the ad revenue to function. to pay bills- so it will only go so far.
as sick as it is- that force has kept our valley from being a has been dried up goaast town- so it is a mixed bag.   i wont name the place on this board- but they weild tremendous power locally. including what gets in the paper and what doesnt. i must say tho- that it works for me. if chicago was so great- i would be there, im not there im in central pa. as this is where i can get the quality of life i want.
each region has its elite. some are more currupt then others.
the not in my back yard thing- the elite are great to have here. but on certain otehr matters they short the public. in recent years- ild say they have been fairer then others.
the local newspaper can and has taken prominent people down- drs- dentists. no one is immune- except for a select few.
when i was a kid we were taught dissent was good. now it seems it is a crime.
Yes, i've seen his show.  i wouldn't speak on it if i hadn't.  However, i will admit it's not one of my faves[:)].  Good point about big corporations........luci
Jack45 -> RE: tonight's 60 Minutes (5/7/2007 12:01:44 PM)
Lou Dobbs is better than I could have hoped for, the guy should be President. The better Repubs, Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, have zero chance this go around.
Dobbs is the big draw for CNN, no wonder CBS has hired him to help their sagging news show ratings.
Dobbs cares about working Americans and he tells what rest of MSM won't.
