This is true. The very first DOS operating system that Microsoft marketed for the IBM PC, called MS-DOS, is based on QDOS (Wikipedia) an "illegal copy" of an older personal computer operating system called CP/M.

The first question arising from your response is: 1) Are there any ills of "Piracy", and 2) Why focus on Windows users.

1) That's a personal decision. There's a reason that Microsoft doesn't make it too hard to boost a copy of office from the office or wherever. It's better for them if you pirate their product than USE anyone else's.

Their BRAND is all they have.

2a) Linux users pirating software? When *EVERYTHING* one needs to do is available under the GPL or other Free License?

2b) Not using Macs, I cant comment, but those hippies seem to be the kind who would consider the commercial implications of this simple maxim: "Stolen tools have bad Karma"
