PrincessEllie -> The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/4/2007 7:49:28 PM)

Hoo boy. I was just in another forum, completely not related to BDSM, and I posted the emblem as part of my profile. I added the text "You'll get this if you get it. If you don't, then don't worry."

So, about an hour later. Some fella pops up and asks me if I'm really into the Dept. of Transportation.

The USDT emblem:

Sometimes I feel like I'm part of a secret organization, and no one else gets it. Makes for awkward conversations sometimes.

So, here are my discussion topics:
Have you ever had emblem mix up trouble?
Do you often use the emblem?
What is your opinion, overall, on the emblem in general?

velvetears -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/4/2007 7:58:18 PM)

i never have used the emblem as i am not "out" and this would be too risky for me to attach myself to publicly.

i think the emblem resembles the yin yang emblem. My escape if i was ever caught would be *eyes wide* This is what!?!?! i thought it was that yin yang symbol *hehe*

MagiksSlave -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/4/2007 8:00:55 PM)

the simble you gave in the link is missing the dots.. that and the simble used as BDSM simble wasnt created for BDSM we just took on an already existing one that had other meanings.

PrincessEllie -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/4/2007 8:01:10 PM)

I use the Emblem regularly.
Mostly because the people who will recognize it for what it is are the sort of people I want to attract.
Given that most of them are in the scene and all.

PrincessEllie -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/4/2007 8:04:01 PM)

Ah, yes. I am aware of the missing dots.
But in reality, we have holes and not dots.
The triple yinyang was already taken by the Koreans, so we had to make due with the holes in place of dots.

The Emblem with the triple yinyang and holes was altered to fit our needs and came from the Triskele.

Stazia -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/4/2007 9:13:09 PM)

what i find funny is that i got the triskel tatooed on me long before i knew that it had been taken on and slightly altered by the bdsm scene.  now that i know i find it even more fitting that it is permanetly on my body!

knowbodystoy -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/4/2007 9:19:29 PM)

hye, how do i get that ice cream cone to go away?!?!?! that stinks!

Elorin -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/4/2007 9:37:09 PM)

knowbodystoy - the icecream cone is just a sign of how much you have posted. You start with ice cream cones, then go to BDSM symbols, then handcuffs, then paddles, I believe.

I like the BDSM symbol and it's significance, and enjoy using it as well as modified triskeles in online graphics and such. I have some BDSM emblem jewelry that I happily wear although no one has mentioned it to me and noticed it. I've never had any problems with the wrong symbol being inferred.

haha! I know what you mean.  I was once speaking to someone I had only just met over the internet on a completely non BDSM related topic.
Throughout the conversation there were a few social cues that lead me to believe he was of the lifestyle (he was speaking about his girl at the time).
It was when he refered to her as a 'wench' that it clinched it for me.
I simply replied with one word and a question mark. .....Gor?

His response was 'OMFG How did you know?'.

The "dots" are not dot on the BDSM symbol, they are actually holes.

You could always steal the Mercedes-Benz symbol (three-pointed star) instead. :)
Pretend that you got the tattoo because you REALLY like German cars, or because you think you have great bodywork.:)

That's brilliant! I had a Gor mix up problem once...
I was in an unrelated non-BDSM topic with a Domme friend of mine, and one of the other girls there accidentally wrote 'Gor' instead of 'For'.

We laughed our asses off for about five minutes and then, for the rest of our posts in that thread, made the same mistake so we could confuse people.

They re-interpretated a Govt department symbol to represent bending plaything's over to degrade, humiliate, and generally fuck them stupid
Yeah
That showed lateral thinking, Not [:D]

From Wikipedia -

Click on the URL link at the bottom to read more details -

"Triskelion (or triskele, from Greek τρισκελής "three-legged") is a symbol consisting of three bent human legs, or, more generally, three interlocked spirals, or any similar symbol with three protrusions and a threefold rotational symmetry (without any reflection symmetries).

A triskelion is the symbol of Sicily, where it is called Trisceli, and the Isle of Man, and a symbol of Brittany; the Sicilian and Manx triskelions feature three running legs, bent at the knee, conjoined at the crotch. The relation of the legged triskele to other variants is unclear. Spiral forms of the triskele are often classed as solar symbols, while the legged version, sometimes including a gorgon mask or Medusa's head at the central axle point in the Sicilian version, suggests a chthonic significance."

ClosetSinner -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/6/2007 7:43:16 PM)

I went to a tattoo artist to get a price for a tattoo of a dragon holding a triskellion. (In the image it's holding a rose). The tattoo artist then said, "You realize that's a Chinese symbol with an american dragon right?" To which I kindly stated it was not. He proceded to argue with me until I told him. "The tattoo relates to the rose with handcuffs on my back, it's about bondage not 'ancient Chinese history'." He shut up real quick after that.

MercTech -> RE: The US Department of Transportation--> Kinkier than you thought (5/6/2007 7:46:49 PM)

Another use of the triskele is found in the SCA Kingdom of Trimaris.  (mundanely, the state of Forida)

Being a member of the SCA I have always found that symbolisim very funny.. Itwas in Trimaris that my D/s life was found from my Mentor Master Gregory.

In the past I had a flag with the device on it, of course my friends who all reside in An Tir (North Western North America) all asked WHY I would fly a flag that was similar to Trimaris.. All I would say is it had something to do with my persona LOL..
I have found it to be a great way of meeting others of the lifestyle while at SCA events..
