People it has NOTHING TO WITH SAFTY!!!

Red Light and Speed camera's are all about making revenue!

It is a giantic tax on the middle class and lower middle class drivers.

It's a tax on people who drive like assholes.  OK by me.

Sorry...but no it is not OK.

If it was for safety reasons the fine would be $500.00 and the yellow light a constant 4 seconds.

Why do they lower the speed of the yellow lights safety is an issue?

oh... and rent-a-cars are exempt just about everywhere.... I guess rentals are safer when running YELLOW lights or doing 60 in a 55.

I haul ass out in the boonies...which is most of New Mexico. I mean major ass! If I travel at the speed of light I'll age very, very slowly, right? So it logically follows that the faster I go the slower I will age. I have gotten lots of tickets, but they've all been for going really fast on lonely, two-lane blacktop. I never speed in populated areas. I like the idea of the radar camera ticket-issuing thingies. Especially in school zones!

School zones are fine, but they are sticking speed cameras in major commuter thoroughfares to prey on working folks. There is no money to be made in school zones, only the dregs of society are speeding through school zones. Speed cameras are geared to the working public.

Maybe so. But, if that is true, they are geared only to the portion of the working public that speeds and runs redlights in populated areas. I think it's fine. Serves the public good and generates revenue. Great idea. Right up there with lotteries and taxes on cigs, booze, and gas.

So... keeping pace with surrounding traffic or doing 37 in a 35 zone (just ask the folks in Washington DC where that is a ticket via the camera) or procceding with caution through a yellow light that was, until yesterday 3.8 seconds long but today is 2.1 seconds long, is how you are defining scofflaws?

Tell me then...
Why are not the fines $500.00?
Why are they not subject to trials?
Why are rent-a-cars and out of state commerical vehicles exempt?
Why are there not warnings at these supposed dangerous intersections?
Why are the contracts with the manufactures of the cameras confidential?

My last speeding ticket was $200, the cop was nice enough to write only a 10 over.  I'd hate to find out how much a 30 over would cost.  Regardless of why there are laws and speed traps/cameras and what have you.....they are there so you have plenty of incentive to not speed.
