Fight Club is on the TV again tonight. Its a great film and from what I'm told a pretty accurate representation of schizoid psychosis in its latter stages. But this isnt about a film review!

I'm interested to know from all the guys out there (and any gals too of course);
Who would like to be a member of Fight Club, as depicted in the film?
Who would, (seriously now) find such a club enjoyable?
Would find it affirming of their masculinity to go beat up someone else who also wanted to fight to affirm themselves?
Who feels that such a Club is needed to provide a manly outlet in a feminised world (according to the film!)? Second to that, have any of the guys feeling that way found something else that fulfils the purpose, and if so, what?

Good questions.  Fight Club is a great film.

I think one of the problems that happens when people who try to figure out what Fight Club is all about is they neglect to read about the events that inspired Chuck Pahlaniuk to write the book in the first place.

It's really not about men struggling for an identity in a feminized world and fighting and all of that (at least I don't think so....)

To me, it's about people who've become numb to life.

To answer your questions though, would I join a fight club, find it enjoyable, etc.  Nah, probably not.  I hate pain...

Ugh.  Robert Bly gets on my nerves something FIERCE.

Probably a good sign I should read his book, eh?  ;)

To me it is about all of those things, and more.

I am not sure I would refer to it as a "feminized" world.   As Edward Norton asks Brad Pitt on the bus "Is that what a man looks like?"  People have bought in to this Barney or Mister Rogers version of what life is supposed to be, and yet we are not all that far removed from a world of naked violence and brutality.

I used to work out at a martial arts studio where we would spar fairly violently after class ended and one of my buddies had the key to the studio.  I used to do Arnis where sparring was done with sticks and we would feet 3-5 on one.  I preferred the raw brutality and adrenalin sensations of being in the middle.

I am not sure Edward Norton necessarily became "numb" to life.  His life was an endless treadmill spent working a position he hated and did not believe in.  I am a peace loving progressive, and I spent 8 years as a performance expert running nuclear war simulations.  There is an existential mindset which I would not call numb, I would call it sitting in a chair, hopped up on coffee at 3 in the morning, and wondering "what the fuck is this world and what am I doing in it?"  I can totally understand his issues, although I did not go the total dissassociation route that he did.

I was actually thinking I need to watch that movie again...

Lol, since when was it more courageous to use a gun than box or bare knuckle fight?

God created man. Colonel Colt made them equal.

I think what popeye is saying is that using guns allows people with little or no combat skills or courage to compete on an semi-equal footing with those who have skills and courage.

It wasn't the boxing that I found compelling in that film, but the elements of social sabotage.  Monkey wrenching has been an interest for a long time.

I wouldn't join such a club.  Physical combat isn't something I do for fun.  Besides, they had rules and in a real fight, there aren't any.

I think I'm just a fan of consensual violence in general.  So i can understand the attraction of belonging to a "fight club".  I've long wanted to take a kick boxing class, just because i think being a feminine woman who can kick ass is incredibly hot.  I don't necessarily,  want to actually kick ass...i just want to be able to...

Give a wuss (weakling, pansy, softy) a gun, he believes he can compete with the big boys, missturbation.

LOL...yup. I used to say that alot. I found that those kind of checks generally bounce. I fought on and off for a couple of years. I learned alot of really valuable lessons and alot about myself. Not to mention the money wasn't bad....lol.
