A sad trial is going on- per the county level here. In order to obtain jurers- they went to public places and handed people summonses for jury duty. 25 in all. The local paper claims [only] 3 people balked at this idea.

I never served on a jury- it would drive me crazy -to be quiet- as I would want to ask the questions.

What is YOUR area doing to obtain juries?

I had read about jury "harvesting"-which amounts to a stacked jury.

If you served- what was it like?

I dont like the idea that running for a  carton of milk can invite myself on a jury.

hello
for me i would love to serve on a jury. Frist i feel if we wish to keep our law equal then i feel it is each person duty to sit with an open mind and not necesseary judge but weight the evdince. and come up with a subjective descision.
take care and be safe

i dont think i could sentence anyone to death.  im the guy that wold deadlock a jury.

however- a big issue is the amount of sitting- my back wont permit that.

Well, it's supposed to be a random cross-section of your peers.

Where I live, they take names from the lists of registered voters.  I think some places take them from the DMV.  So, you could say don't register to vote or don't drive a car to avoid getting summoned.

I served on a grand jury once, and I loved it.  Grand jury is where you only hear evidence from the prosecution and you vote on whether or not to indict.....meaning, whether or not the prosecution has enough evidence and witnesses to go to court and have a good chance of getting a conviction.  I learned a lot about the legal system, and had a fun paid day off work once a week.  We all got to be friends, went to lunch together, etc.  It really wasn't so bad.

their are consultants that specialize in selecting juries. as to get their outcome.

the local court is- uncomfortable. no food drink candy gum. well some meds give one dry throat. also- im thinking we enver updated our flag to reflect 50 states- it has 48 stars on it.

I've served several times and I hope that I continue to be called. To me it is an important part of our country so it is hard for me to have that 'omg I hate jury duty' attitude. That.. and the whole legal procedure fascinates me!
I would not want to rely on a jury that did not want to be there, that didn't pay attention to things or think deeply about the trial so I make sure that I give my all. One never knows where a person can end up.

I just got a summons in the mail AGAIN......everytime I have been summons they have setteled out of court. Honestly I feel like michaelofGeorgia does.

It is also hard because I am a solo owner of a daycare and the parents go nuts everytime I get summons, which in the last two years is about every two or three months that I get one.

{ Just shakes my head wishes they would find someone else to summons for awhile..........LOL}

I've been called three times, each time I was either out of state or out of the country.

If summoned, do please familiarize yourself with "Jury Nullification"... the right of a Jury to judge the LAW which has brought the person to trial.

http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/zenger/nullification.html

If the jury selection gets drift that you know this though, you are most unlikely to pass the 'selection' process.

Here they pick names from the registered voters. I personally would love to serve jury duty. I think it would be fun and get to learn a little more about the law.

I served once.  I hope I am never called again.  It was a case that should've, could've been settled out of court, and they tried to settle it, but could not come to terms on dollars for the injuries.  We ate at the county's expense and made the decision for them.

I've never served...I still use my parent's mailing address for my driver's license and they just return my notices to sender.  I'll serve the day the government pays me for my time.  Start the bidding at $100/day

Thats so weird...Jinx and I were just having this conversation

He and I live 67 miles apart, but we're in different counties.

I got my first notice and a weeding out questionaire in November. In March, I got a notice and a booklet on how to be a good juror, and had to call April 16th and see if I was needed. When I called, it said I was to report to such and such court 2 weeks later.

Jinx's first notice was like, 2 days ago for his jury duty on May 15th. Thats all he got-one letter in the mail saying "show up"
