well, rather than allowing third world countries to birth more mouths than they can feed, try sterilizing part of the population. Doesn't take a genius to figure out if you can't take care of the kids then don't have them. Most third-world peoples have sex for lack of anything else to do, wheter they can feed the kids or not.....

It's called apoptosis. It is the complete and natural death of a cell. As we age, our cells divide in a worse and worse way because of defects in the DNA and it's corruption. Thus we look ugly when we are old and will die no matter how healthy we are. We are programmed for death- each and every cell in us knows when to "die". If a cell were to become immortal, it would not specialize into say a liver or blood cell, and would replicate constantly and thus become what we know of as cancer. Our human chromosomes are also becoming corrupted with each birth on the same theory, thus the Y chromosome is having problems, i.e. a now forseable point in the future when men might not be like the men we know today. Everything is limited, and so are species. Evolution comes in here, and once enough changes occur in response to the envirnoment, the primary animal will no longer resemble the final product that will emerge many many years later. But...with our technology and current comfortable lifestyles, we have almost put a halt to evolution and might be a dead end on our family tree.

Are there now simply too many people in the world?

Not even close.   No effing way.   6.5 Billion times NO.

but these people all thought so...
  • Chiang Kai-shek (China: 1928-49)
  • Enver Pasha (Turkey: 1913-18)
  • Hirohito (Japan: 1926-89)
  • Hirota Koki (Japan: 1936-37)
  • Ho Chi Minh (North Vietnam: 1945-69)
  • Kim Il Sung (North Korea: 1948-94)
  • Lenin (USSR: 1917-24)
  • Leopold II (Belgium: 1865-1909)
  • Nicholas II (Russia: 1894-1917)

  • Tojo Hideki (Japan: 1941-44)
  • Wilhelm II (Germany: 1888-1918)
  • Yahya Khan (Pakistan: 1969-71)
and these people did too...

  • Idi Amin (Uganda: 1971-80)
  • Ion Antonescu (Romania: 1940-44)
  • Ataturk (Turkey: 1920-38)
  • Francisco Franco (Spain: 1939-75)

  • Hadji Suharto (Indonesia: 1967-97)
  • Tito (Yugoslavia: 1945-80)
and it seems to be something that Ahmadinejad, Bush, and Cho, all agree on.

I still think they are all wrong.

i wouldnt really worry about it Ellen.  People die off by the hundreds left and right.  Drug related deaths, car accidents, alcohol related deaths, disease related deaths, murders.......  you name it......... some one is dying every second of the day, some where atleast.  People are dying non stop.  On top of that we have mother nature that does her job in controlling population.  The Tsunami, hurricane Katrina, tornadoes... ect.. And then you have mass killings by other people..... 9/11 - the things Saddam used to do..... war.....  Gah the holocaust really put a dent in the population.  Disease and poverty are killing people left in right over in India... Aids is massively reducing the population in Africa and a few other places around the world.

Nothing to do but let people be people and mother nature be mother nature.

We in the west are living in a false paradise. We live in relative luxury at the expense of the poor in the world so tend to think their is too many of them rather than too many of us but it is us in the west that is using all the world's resources on frivolous luxury rather than preserving it for future generations. A little more sharing of the burden and a sharing of wealth and knowledge wouldn't put us in poverty but would ease many out of it with the probable result of a falling population.

Though we are human and only respond to crisises rather than think and plan rationally. Our grandchildren no doubt will hate us for the inheritence we will leave them.
