Alright, we aren't really bitching here, just thought this encounter was funny and wondering if the same thing has happened to anyone else. It is common for us to find men pretending to be women, and normally the way we weed them out is by asking for a phone call very early on. Well, we just started to talk with a "woman" who wrote to us first. After talking on IM and receiving some highly questionable pics we asked for a phone call. The person was hesitant and we gave out our number. When they didn’t call after 10 minutes, we wrote them off. We realize that being hesitant and not calling is not a true sign of a fake, it can easily be someone who is real but feels rushed and uncomfortable, but it's a good sign usually that they don't want us to hear the testosterone in their voice. We were really surprised then when the phone did ring. Yet the real shocker was that the person on the other line was obviously a man trying really hard to talk with a very light and airy woman's voice. I told him what I thought, and "she" said well, maybe it's just because of my Australian accent that you think I sound like a man. Let me tell you there was no accent, and I know for a fact no Australian accent (this person claimed to be from Perth) makes real women talk like trannies.

Has anyone else had the laughable experience of a person pretending to be their opposite sex to try to talk to you?

Men online do a lot of weird and crazy things. I have often wondered why men pretend
to be women online? Is it so that they can talk to beautiful lesbians? I mean what is the
point?

Yeah... dozens of times, maybe even hundreds. People come to sites like this seeking all kinds of things, and sometimes what they want is more fantasy than reality. So, in their eyes, pretending to be a woman (or anything else, for that matter) is just part of the game, part of the fantasy. Sometimes, people just lie because they think it will help them get what they want. And if what they want is to "get off' then let's face it, they may not have any qualms about lying, cheating, or using someone (especially some anonymous person on the Internet) to achieve their goals.

To answer your question literally, these people don't really have "balls." If they did, they would be more upfront about who they are and what they have to offer in exchange for whatever it is they are seeking.

Guys pretending to be women online happens all the time. I haven't as yet heard of a women pretending to be a guy though. :-)

Oh no, my whole point wasn't so much about what nerve to be a man pretending to be a woman online. That is so commonplace now for us it's not an issue; just another hurdle to jump over in trying to find the right person. My point was that I have never, ever had a man call up for a voice confirmation of who they claim to be trying really hard to use what they think is a woman's voice.

I actually have been laughing about this, because I just realized that the 10 minutes before he called us he probably was practicing and trying to convince himself that the sounded passable . . .

Yes, it's happened to me also. And coincidently, the alleged woman was also from Australia, who allegedly had planned a weeks-long trip to the States with several destination points, my town included.

Like you, I also press for a phone chat as soon as possible, since the majority of alleged Dommes I've dealt with online drop me like a hot potato at "proving time" for obvious reasons.

Why do all these men pose as females? I believe they do so because they are pathetic people living pathetic lives and have nothing better or more productive to do with their time. And/or, they are selfishly using you and the fantasy interactions they create with you for their immature wank fodder.

In the late 90s I had a pretty successful "all women" mailing list for femdoms and femdom-curious types. I voice verified all ladies before adding them to the list to avoid men listening in or trolling for names to bug. I got at least a half dozen guys calling either trying to fake their voice or obviously putting up a female friend to call, because she couldn't answer any of the simply chit chat questions. It was amazing to me and pretty discouraging that men would go through that length.

I have a chat room on my web site that isn't very active right now because I don't have a lot of time to coordinate chats, but when I do, and do it regularly, I voice verify the women who chat there. I think this makes it better for everyone and avoids a trolling atmosphere. Most ladies have no problem chatting on the phone for a second on my dime to prove their gender. About 75% of the female nicknames chat and behave like obvious wankers and don't subject themselves to the call. Then they log back in with a male nickname and pretend they are someone new (I see the IP addresses). It's always a debate whether to ban them for that or let them stay and chalk it up to a lame mistake.

It sounds like a very thorough set-up, which works well for you.

For me, it's too much like work. I'm not worried too much if someone fools me for a little while. "Fool me once, shame... etc."

Sure, it's momentarily annoying, but to give it more than a moment's thought is beneath your dignity, and mine.

Balls are at the heart of the problem, being a requirement for engaging in the activity in the first place, and part of the motivation behind it.

I see it at an extension of a fetishistic approach to woman; for some the artifacts and apparel is sufficient, for others the artifacts become personal accessories and the apparel is adopted on a temporary basis, thereby acquiring the woman by association. It is a high risk strategy for impersonators to speak, yet the whole pattern of their behaviour is equally high risk, with correspondingly high personal rewards for success, in that their fetishistic relationship with woman is strengthened thereby. It does require balls to test one's fetishistic access to woman at ever higher levels against the impressions of others - failure means the destruction of that access by way of the breaking of the illusion that the woman is real, to the impersonator himself; his relationship with her, which may have taken years to develop, is over, with corresponding hurt to him as much as if she had been real.

The message from that then to those who see such impersonation as the natural progression of their fetish, is to be careful, for given my analysis is true, then it is just as harmful to the impersonator when he is discovered - as he will be at some stage, as it is hurtful to those discovering. Far better to be upfront - but then the reason for secrecy is likely the shame felt by such men, arising from the ridicule of others for their particular fetish.

On vanilla chats I've been to, most "lesbians" are guys.

It is obvious that many come to these forums to amuse themselves with no intent of ever meeting someone face to face. I would like someone to explain what this type of activity does for the person? We can all stimulate ourselves to a point with fantasy, but it can never replace the physical encounter. So if I enter into a dialog with someone knowing full well that this will never lead to any physical relationship what have I accomplished? It seems to me that this would be extremely frustrating in the long run for the individual unless their only motivation was mental stimulation. On the other hand I have an acquaintance that is a quadriplegic and he enjoys phone sex for that very reason that I can understand. Is it possible that some of these people have handicaps that will not allow them to participate on a physical relationship?

Everyone I've gotten to know after first becoming acquainted with on the internet has turned out to be of the advertised gender. In fact everyone has turned out to very much the sort of person he or she represented him or herself as. My life is tremendouslyly enriched by the presence in it of wonderful people I have met here on this site, or at a similar site, or--in earlier times--in newsgroups or IRC chat.

I wonder whether I have been terribly lucky, beating the odds, or whether I have been doing things in a way systematically different than the people who so often complain about the "fakes" and "wannabees" littering their lives.

Boys pretending to be girls don't get very far with Me, because I do happen to be looking for a boy. Girls are shot down immediately, so that would explain the main reason why I don't have the problem with the issue.

As for T/those that do, I find webcam to be a wonderful little invention. Cam with voice, even better! Instructing one to tell them to show Me themselves now leaves little room for deception. For T/those who might balk at the idea, I'm not talking about an x-rated shot of jacking off. I'm talking about a g-rated face shot that can help to confirm one's appearance, if they are HWP, their general age, and many other questions that come up in varifying if a person is who they say they are. The best part is that a webcam is only about $20.00 and there really aren't a lot of excuses for not being able to have/get one. Technology is wonderful!
