ok gang- my sleep schudule is out of control. help;

does anyone else get like this?

i got nothing done yersderday. today was going to redo my liceense,

whicg menas i must shave. yikess.

Stupid question maybe but...why do you have to shave...I mean is there something on your license that says you must?

cops and judges- and elders- prefer the clean-cut look. There is nothing saying i must shave- HOWEVER_i am required to remove my eye glasses!!!!  [biometrics]

Shaving is a ritual- that- i do as a form of self respect. i cant expect others to resoect me- if i dont respect me.  [dad would call this old school]


i dont mind shaving- only teh cold snap has made life edgey.

Funny- i can look back at previous licenssses and see hwo i have aged.

anyhow- the neighbor reported me to code enforcement before i even moved in- therefore i want to line all my paperwork up. they go eaasier on you- if you made some sort of attempt.

To the extreme.  I'm sleeping every other day, during the day, with crippling exhaustion and inability to focus.  This is largely related to my ADD, I'm sure.

i heard somewhere that an apple will do more to wake you up than coffee. i tend to drift towards night hours when i don't need to be up early. i just ride it out that first day back and hold out for a reasonable time to get some sleep.

I have always had a degree of insomnia. Try adjusting your sleep scehdule to go to bed earlier one hour each night for awhile, until you get back on track. Keep the room dark, and maybe drink a glass of milk before you try to sleep.

If you simply cannot sleep, I'd turn on a light, and read in bed until you feel sleepier, and then sleep with the light on if necessary. That's what I do anyway. I know it can be disturbing. I've been this way ever since I can remember, and that's how I try to deal. Good luck.

Set an alarm or two. Set it to when you have to wake up. When it goes off, just get up immediately, no matter how awful you feel. Get your shower. Your body will crash later, but do something to occupy yourself when you start to slow down, something that you know keeps you up.

After 2 weeks of this, your body will anticipate the wake up time and you will wake up before the alarm. When your wakeup time is set, your sleep time will eventually adjust to sleep 14 to 16 hours later.

Yes...it comes with age...it also comes with intelligence...and because I have an IQ the size of a small intergalactic planetoid nebula....

I haven't slept well since 1973.

That aside....there's a bunch of good stuff out there to help you sleep (I've tried them all....I truly haven't slept well since I was 23)....

Estazolam (also known as "Prosom").  POWERFUL sleep aid, if you're not prone to addiction. 

I was...took me 2 months to get off the shit...but motherfuck....I slept like a baby!

Wanna sleep?....take Prosom.  Good shit.

Klonopin (SP?....could be another spelling).

Often used for other purposes....if Prosom isn't strong enough for you....Klonopin will kick your ass.

(And you'll sleep.  Sleep is a good thing).

Ativan....good stuff...basically a valium derivative....again, if you're not addictive...it'll do the trick.  If you are (addictive)....plan on a wonderful release involving several other drugs....each of which will have their precursors....none of which are fun.

A new one...can't remember the name....has an ad with Lincoln and a water rat playing cards...looks promising....who knows....

I'm told Yoga is helpful, nightime teas are good, 1 mile walks, lots of sex is also good (I've tried like HELL to convince my ex Domme of this...and how it may someday benefit her...but she's once again....not fucking listening...{not of course that there's anything wrong with that})...

Each to his (or) her own....myself....I've recently adapted a rather superb hydraulic mechanism to my garbage disposal....and frankly I'm considering proposing marriage....

What is your natural biological clock?  When does your body want to sleep and wake up if left to its own devices? 
Once you know that, you can begin to adjust it to fit your other needs. 
You know the basics about avoiding caffeine and possibly taking sleep medicines. 
Have you checked with your physician?  And is this a new or a long-term problem?

I work nights 7a-7p ,3 days a week and after that third night I am a zombie for 24 hours. After that I am good. I try to keep to a good schedule to keep up my energy when off.

Ah ok. That makes sense. Well..i'm an insomniac myself, so not sure what to tell ya. I ain't had a full decent nights sleep since 85, the day my first kid was born. Oh i'll doze now and then...specially if sitting in front of the computer...but to actually fall asleep...ain't done it in a long time.

My girl came in to get me one day about a month ago. Said I was actually asleep. I must have been cause i'll normally open at least one eye and growl, but I didn't that day. So she left me be and went into town alone. Course...I growled even more when I woke and found she had gone by herself.

When I asked her why, she simply said..you were actually alseep for once and I didn't want to wake you and get you angry for waking you. I shut up real fast. :P

Vendeval hit it right on the head.  Listen to your body clock.  I am literally unable to work days for any extended period of time because of my body clock.  I have fallen asleep behind he wheel of my car numerous times while working days.....i'm lucky if i manage 2-3 hours of sleep on days.  I am a vampire, plain and simple.....up at night, hiding from the light during the day!  I do, however, prefer peanut butter to blood...E-W-W-W-W-W-W-W!

My mom told me i was an insomniac in the womb...i'd be up all night and sleep during the day.  School was a bitch for me, my mom would start to get me up at 5:30, and i didn't have to be to school until 8:05....it usually took her sending up our st bernards to get me out of bed...twin beds don't have a whole lotta space, so when you factor in 2 180 lb dogs, someone's gotta go!

Something else to consider...if you've never had problems with this before, look at what's stressing you.  Your mind can alter your body's natural rhythms even if you don't believe you're stressed.  Try to figure it out and resolve the problem.

Also, be careful with any kind of sleep aids, even the OTC ones....i got severely addicted to NY-Quil as a sleep aid once....kicking the habit was a real bitch......melatonin is good, as it's a natural hormone that your body produces anyway...my only problem with it was that i had to keep taking more and more of it.  i've discovered the benadryl in the pill form seems to help, and so far, it doesn't appear to have any addiction issues, i can actually sleep without it.  The wal-mart brand works fine, i take 4, which is 100mg....i've also noticed that i'm not getting as stuffed up at night from allergies....and it won't leave you feeling worse in the am.

Also, if you find you can't sleep, GET OUT OF BED!  I can't tell you just how frustrating it is to lie there and stare at the ceiling, wishing, no, BEGGING for sleep to come.  The frustration simply compunds the sleeping problem.  Read, watch some tv, do a crossword puzzle, but get out of bed to do it.  Sleep and surfing are the only things that go on in my bed.....well, not the ONLY things, but you get my drift.  If you're not used to eating before bed, starting to eat something or drink something may not help either.  You just need to sort of grope around thru all the "solutions" offered, and see what works for you.
If this continues or gets worse, don't screw around with it...go to a doc, make sure there's no physical reason for it.  Hopefully, yours won't get worse, it's usually a temporary thing with someone who hasn't suffered from it all their life.  My guess is probably a hidden stress due to some changes in your life.  Once you resolve it, things should start to return to normal.

Try getting a bottle of Melatonin pills.
A friend who is a Nurse Practitioner told me about it and I picked up a bottle at Costco and it works great!
She and her daughter take them.
Take two an hour before going to bed.
Schiff makes them.
Your body needs Melatonin to regulate sleep.
It's a natural substance and you don't wake up feeling "drugged."
Try it, it works!
I swear by it!

Try talking to your doc about it. Even adults with ADD can usually get stuff like ritaline or dexedrine. I know I sleep like a baby on dexedrine, while regular people can't sleep on it.

And, of course, it helps with the exhaustion and inability to focus.

Sleep meds aren't as effective with ADD, in my experience, except neuroleptics, and those really fuck me up (I mean, like, fuck me up for 3 years or so). I can take a clear overdose of sleep meds and still function until they leave my system. Never tried barbs, though, those would probably work. Put some stims in there instead, however, and I can go to bed if I want, no problem.

If your doc doesn't want to try that approach, or you don't want to yourself, consider asking for Emsam patches and/or Rozarem. S/he shouldn't have any problem prescribing those, and you prefer like them, as they're milder.

About 15 minutes is better than 1 hour, in terms of how fast you adjust your schedule.

At least, that's what the sleep doc told me they do when they have to make big changes to people's sleep schedules. If you can't go that slow, they medicate you into a different schedule instead.

Sounds like you need a sleep doc, Griswold, and maybe some time in a sleep clinic. They have ways of getting just about anyone off the sleep meds now, if you're willing to change your lifestyle to match.

In the absence of that, there are alternatives that will put you to sleep: GHB (Xyrem), secobarbital (Seconal), phenobarbital, sodium pentothal ...

Xyrem may mess your salt balance up, and apparently tastes horrid, but from feedback I've read, you should be unconscious somewhere between 20 seconds and 20 minutes after putting it in your mouth, depending on how much is absorbed through the mucosal membranes (you're supposed to swallow).

Secobarbital is also used for induction of artificial coma, as well as in physician-assisted suicide, so that'll knock you out. Hopefully before knocking out your breathing. Might want to keep an eye on that.

There are some drugs that are supposed to be suitable for long-term use. Foremost among these, if memory serves, are Rozarem (an M1- and M2-agonist, IIRC, kind of like melatonin, but strong enough to induce sleep) and Lunesta (a benzodiazepine with little or no long-term tolerance buildup; approved for continous long-term use).

I think Lunesta (S-zopiclon) is the one you saw on the ads, but I'm not from the US, so I haven't seen the ad myself.

Your body also produces melatonin, although production might drop off when you add it externally. I don't think there's been any long-term studies on that. The jury is still out on the long-term safety of supplementation, although some benefits and problems are known so far (e.g. questionable if you have epilepsy, bad if you use MAOIs).

And the most effective way to fix the levels, is to make sure you sleep with the lights off and get 15-30 minutes of exposure to proper sunlight within 2 hours of waking up. That will shift your biological clock to the right track by about 15 minutes per day. [:D]

Not arguing that melatonin is a great thing to try, just saying that people need to care less whether it's "natural", and also realize that "natural" doesn't mean "good for you".

Remember that plants and so forth don't make their various contents so that they will be good for us. They make them to kill or maim us, so that we'll stop eating them. Sometimes, by chance, we end up with one that's more good than bad for us, until the plant has time to evolve its way around this problem.

And melatonin supplements are synthetically produced, IIRC. Although many of them don't contain any melatonin, and most don't contain even levels of it.

Yes, my sleep schedule is very messed up.  However that is due to work and the flu.  I get much done everyday...that is because I push myself.  You have to do the same.

I live with a mild case of PTSD which affects my sleep (and, therefore, my memory). I have been dealing with it, for some time.
 
While medicines may work, I have an aversion to putting things into my body that don't absolutely belong there. I am not saying that medicine serves no purpose. I am saying that I am, usually, very reticent about it.
 
In my life, I use the old tried-and-true methods; warm milk, reading, exercise (a regular, daily regimen; NOT right before bed!), and good, old-fashioned exhaustion. I never sleep more than about 3 hours, at a time, anymore and, waking up from a horrible nightmare, reliving the incident that caused my PTSD (or worse incidents, from the deepest, darkest regions of my mind) are a pretty effective sleep preventative but, I have found that the "old wives' tale" methods do, indeed, work.

some very good posts. i was in a pattern for quite some time. to be awake perhaps 10 days- with fake/forced sleep. then i would crash for 2 days of real sleep. by and large- i rolled with the punches as it was better then the prveious phaze which were ramdom black outs.

during the past 10 weeks- i had to have a tip top day. i HAD to perform.   [mom move out of state, faamily commotion, landlord trouble, then the mortgage process and buying a home]

the day after we closed- i crashed for 1 day.

during the 10 weeks i got that nasty cold bug and was on antibiotics for 20 days.

so here i am.  i am adjusting to a new place. cant find anything. wash machine isnt hoooked up yet.  stove isnt hooked up.

as far as meds go- i can tolerate that of a horse. most doseages typically persrcibed would do nothing for me.

the pppost about a rhythem. i dont have that yet.

here it is 2:30 pm, im just getting up.  what can u do businesswise this late?  not much.

im so glad the major stressor of moving is behind me. this is one of the nicer places i have lived.
