of ............. my dog.  i know i get on here and i blabber on about my pets alot, but who else am i going to call up at 1 am and go over the merits of my dog with?

Ok, so i'm sleeping and my dog is on the bed sleeping or staring out the window.. dunno.. but she wakes me up barking and charges off towards back door.  My first reaction is ARG!  i peek out the window.. no signs of evil people and i lay back down.  The dog is not kosher with this, but whatever.  So i'm laying there working on falling back asleep and i hear.. like a crying.. or wailing.....  and hmmmm.......... so i listen longer and it sounds like cats.  Cat fight or cat love?  Dunno.. no big deal.. tons of strays here.. and then it starts to sound uuugly.  My immediate reaction is - my cats.. where are they?  So i hop up, go pee, locate my cats...... except Snow isnt here.  Arg!

My dog is waiting at the front door for me.  Open the door, she tears off.. comes back.. not sure.. dont know where to look and then we hear the sound again and POOF she's off and flying.......  not far..... i see a blob of white.. SNOW!  i see him chasing something around the corner of the neighbors house (as does the dog) and off we go.  i call the cat, he doesnt come back ... did it repeatedly.... damn cold outside.. so i stand there - staring off into where he went off too figuring my cat is just beating up another neighborhood stray.

Then i hear fighting.  Somethings banging into the neighbors house, the dog is growling and barking... (sounds like she's fighting).. so of course this is when i go charging off into the dark of the neighbors house to see WTF.

Dog chased whatever it was into some treeish area and my big blob of a white cat is standing there hackles raised.  :::smiles:: i pick him up, call the dog and go charging back to my house.

Snow's home, the dog checks him out.. Snow goes to cough up a hair ball and the dog literally gets up, stands over top of my cat and checks him out again.  heh.

Dunno if it was another cat... or raccoon... or possum.... or whatever....  but DAMN i'm proud of my dog for saying "get your lazy ass out of bed, something isnt right"  Cos ya know........ what if?

and yeah.. the dog is proud of herself too.....  LOL... for notifying me, locating Snow, coming to his rescue and then chasing off the bad creature!

Did i mention that like a week ago, i had some one here to watch my UM in the morning while i had to get up super early to do something.......  some how i didnt hear the alarm - but they did and came into my room to wake me up.  Vaguely awake.. i saw a dark figure in my door way and let out a startled scream... and my dog that was dead asleep jumped to her feet and was growling with in 2 seconds flat?

my dog ROCKS....  i pity the person that comes into my house uninvited.......

dude - i'm armed - with a dog

heh

Dogs rock, IMO. I love mine, too! You seem like you have a great one.

Your dog is a very good protector.  Do keep an eye on both the dog
and Snow in case of any abcesses from the fight.  Cats claws are
sharp and curved and the wounds may not be visible at first.
(The abcesses form when the wound gets infected and then
it is a trip to the vet to lance, disinfect and drain the wound.)

Glad you have your little menagerie to keep you company.

I have three cats, and the oldest is part dog....he's not afraid of anyone who comes in, but he won't let them get next to me until he feels that they aren't going to hurt me.  He goes about 18 lbs, and he will literally get between me and anyone else and then sit there and give the his "evil eye".  He's saved my butt several times when it's come to oversleeping......every so often, i set the alarm for 12 hours later than what it should be, but he knows when i need to be up.  He has a personality that is awesome.....of course, all 3 of htem have their own personality, KB is the dominant one, Boo is the independent kitty, and Smooch is my little lover.  But they are my babies, so i fully understand how important yours are to you.  I come home and talk to them when i have a bitchy day, and i swear, they know exactly what i'm talking about....and when i'm sick, they all get up on the bed with me and keep me company.

Dogs and cats that are "sibllings" so to speak will often protect each other.  When i had to put my dog down because of disease, KB wandered around for about a week looking for him...wouldn't let anyone sleep on his bed, or drink out of the big water feeder for over a month.  My dog, Shiloh, once went after another dog that was thinking about coming after KB, and Shiloh didn't have a mean bone in his body towards any other animal....but if anyone was going to jump on his kitty, it was going to be him!   So it's not any surprise to me that your dog recognized that your kitty was in trouble, and did what he could to get out to him.

It's just good that everything turned out well for your babies.
