akisha, Focus is focus. Who cares what the media is? You don't have to close your eyes to go into hypnosis. You don't have to be relaxed. You don't even have to be aware you are hypnotized. You simply need to be involved and allow it to happen. Sometimes people don't go into hypnosis because they are fearful, untrusting, or just don't want to. Sometimes people don't go into hypnosis because they try too hard. "Try" breathing for five minutes, sometimes. Don't just allow yourself to breathe; actually make the effort to breathe for just five short minutes. Most people can't because breathing is so natural to most of us; it’s the same for hypnosis. People who say they "can't" be hypnotized are usually being self-deceptive. If you have fantasized, you can be hypnotized. Just because a person doesn't cooperate and allow the natural state to occur doesn't mean they can't be hypnotized, simply that they didn't allow it to happen (for any number of possible reasons) at that time. Another area of possible conflict is that a person has a pre-conceived notion of what hypnotism has to be. (Candle, swinging watch, man in a dark suit, woman with cleavage) If the hypnotist should present an induction different from what they expect, well that's just no good. Also, some hobby hypnotists only know a few scripted inductions. Well, different people respond to different foci, or even lack of foci. There is no such thing as a perfect script. Hypnotizing is a learned skill. Being in hypnosis is natural. As far as online hypnosis, it's quite common. Time consuming because of typing speed, but it has its own novel charm. All the best, MH
